Target: President of the United States, Barack Obama
Goal: Show support for a new federal plan to rescue the U.S. bee population.
The Obama administration has proposed a federal plan that will use U.S. land to designate multiple natural habitats for bees and monarch butterflies to thrive, thus increasing their populations and saving them from extinction. Support the federal government’s efforts to protect our environment’s most crucial pollinator.
The plan will take millions of acres of government-owned land and make it more “bee-friendly.” Government-owned land includes things like the landscapes alongside highways, or the landscapes of government-funded housing. Scientists believe this is a great step because it addresses a problem that seems simple but is often overlooked: insects do not have enough to eat.
This program will be incredibly beneficial because it will create more places for the starving pollinators to seek food, in lieu of unusable American landscapes like the basic grass lawn or corn field. This plan does something so simple, but on a large scale. Also, the lands where this change will be implemented will not use harmful pesticides, ensuring safety for the bees as they eat. It is a promising solution to the bee crisis in America and if it yields results, other countries may soon follow suit.
It is important that these efforts be supported as the ecological effects of bee extinction would be devastating to our environment. Let’s give our insect friends the bailout they deserve. Sign this petition to support President Obama’s plan to help rescue America’s bees.
Dear President Obama,
Your administration’s proposal to save the bees in our country by adding more hospital elements to government-owned land is a step in the right direction and I want to show my support.
So often the plights of animals are ignored, and that of the insect variety can seem all but invisible. The bee, in all of its beauty, is critically endangered. The disappearance of this insect would be catastrophic for the planet, as the bee serves certain environmental functions that are difficult to duplicate. The proposal your administration is addressing could change all that and breathe a new life into their dying population.
This exciting plan looks very promising, and upon its anticipated results, other countries may follow our example and dedicate the time and resources to save their nation’s bee population. Thank you for putting the environment on the docket of important issues. Please add my voice to your cause as you continue to push for its legislation.
