Stop Poisoning Pets With Harmful Foods

Target: Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

Goal: Protect small pets from dangerous ingredients in snack foods.

Not many things can be as fulfilling as a happy pet. To make a pet rabbit, guinea pig, mouse, or hamster happy people buy numerous toys, the biggest and best enclosures, and treats. Little do they know that most of those treats can contribute to severe illness or even cause death for their beloved pets.

Most small pet treats are equivalent to candy and contain large amounts of sugar. Too much sugar leads to obesity, diabetes, and other horrible health issues. The poplar “Yogurt Drops” consist mainly of dairy which has to be avoided for all small animals, as most of them are unable to digest milk properly. Rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets suffer from diarrhea, indigestion, and bloating after consuming even minor amounts of dairy.

Dye and food coloring are additional ingredients of pet treats that are extremely harmful to animals. The chemicals in these substances cause allergic reactions, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and worsened asthmatic symptoms. Dye and food coloring are also linked to harming the neurological development of animals.

Small animal treats are not part of a pet’s wholesome diet. Offering pets these awful snack foods threatens their quality of life. Sign this petition to banish toxic pet treats from store shelves.

Dear Mr. Trudeau,

The ingredients found in small animal treats are extremely harmful and cause severe illnesses in innocent pets. Yet, the Canadian government stands by and watches pet owners purchase these snack foods that inevitably poison their beloved animals.

A healthy diet for small pets does not consist of candy-like, toxic foods drenched in chemicals. I urge you to ban unhealthy small pet treats to save precious lives.
