Stop Puppy Mills From Keeping Dogs in Misery and Squalor

Target: Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada

Goal: Make puppy mills illegal and punish the people who torture the poor dogs.

Puppy mills are becoming more and more common in Canada. There are an estimated 1500 of these abusive breeding operations in Quebec alone. Shockingly, there are no laws strictly prohibiting puppy mills. These factory-farmed dogs account for most puppies sold in pet stores. Help put an end to puppy mills once and for all.

It is perfectly legal to keep a dog locked in a kennel for their entire life. This kennel can be a cramped cage where the animal eats, poops, and sleeps. There are no laws to stop forcing a female dog from having puppies twice a year so she remains pregnant or nursing her entire life. Nothing stops these dogs from being auctioned or euthanized when they are no longer useful to the breeding operation.

This multi-million dollar industry generally hides in rural areas, where they are rarely found. And when they are found, the puppies are taken into caring homes…and nothing happens. Some provinces have local laws that attempt to protect dogs from suffering in puppy mills, but it has to be proven in court that the people operating the mills meant to intentionally cause harm to the animals. This is very difficult to prove, and most puppy mill operators walk free, starting the cycle start all over again.

Legitimate dog breeders need to become registered, licensed, and be regularly inspected. People who operate puppy mills are disgusting and should be treated as criminals. Sign this petition and put an end to puppy mill operations across Canada.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

Puppy mills have been on the rise in Canada for the last 15 years, and have grown into a multi-million dollar, largely tax-free, underground industry. Yet this increase in canine exploitation has not seen a reciprocal increase in government prevention.

This inaction has led to millions of dogs being abused, and the abusers walking free. The provinces have inadequate laws that allow mistreated dogs to be re-homed, but there are no laws, provincial or federal, that strictly forbid the operation of puppy mills. If the unethical operators do end up in court, they receive a slap on the wrist in the rare cases of conviction.

Dogs in puppy mills spend their reproductive years pregnant or nursing in a cage where they eat, sleep, and defecate. They suffer from disease, parasites, genetic disorders and poor nutrition. It is estimated that the majority of puppies sold in pet stores come from these deplorable conditions.

Keeping dogs in these conditions should be a criminal act. Dog breeders in Canada should have to register and receive a license accompanied by regular inspections. I urge you to update the federal animal welfare laws and strictly prohibit puppy mills across the country.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

BAN PUPPY AND KITTEN MILLS EVERYWHERE NOW. It is egregiously inhumane to the animals and adds to the pet overpopulation crisis, leading to the unconscionable euthanasia of thousands of shelter pets.

Make puppy mills illegal and jail the monster lowlife pos who deliberately and heinously torture the precious and helpless dogs and puppies.

  11. Canadians are shockingly cruel and abusive of aninals in general. I have learned of so much brutality toward our animal friends up there. Animals of water and sea are also treated horribly. Farm animals are abused. There are a lot of sick people in Canada, and apparently nobody up there cares in the least, because its all been going on for literally hundreds of years. So backward and barbaric.

  12. Canada can do so much better…..cruelty is NOT CANADIAN! Puppy mills are animal cruelty…..period. Fix this Trudeau! These people running these puppy mills are the real animals and should feel the torture they put these dogs through. LOCK THEM IN A CAGE!
