Congratulate Poultry Producer For Receiving Humane Award

Target: Gus Arrendale, President of Springer Mountain Farms

Goal: Commend farm’s excellent record of humane treatment of animals

The American Humane Association has recently awarded Gus Arrendale of Springer Mountain Farms its prestigious National Humanitarian Medal. The award recognizes those that take on leadership roles in encouraging essential values such as caring and compassion toward humans and animals alike.

Arrendale is currently the third-generation president of Springer Mountain Farms. Springer Mountain was the first poultry producer to become American Humane Certified, and has since played an integral role in educating producers, retailers, and consumers about the benefits of humane certification.

American Humane Certification means that a farm meets five humane freedom standards. This means that the animals are not caged, are provided with proper food and water, and are kept in clean environments free from distress and disease.

Springer Mountain Farms feeds their chickens an all-natural vegetarian diet. There is no use of growth hormones, stimulants, antibiotics, or steroids. They focus on more space, less stress, and a clean, healthy environment for their chickens.

From a young age, Mr Arrendale has been involved in facets of the family business. As a child, he took to caring for baby chicks, while as a teenager he was involved in processing and delivering. He received a Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia before becoming president and striving for the betterment of his company and the industry as a whole.

Mr. Arrendale also serves on agricultural boards, such as the National Chicken Council’s Marketing Committee and the National Poultry & Food Distributors Association, where he lobbies for industry compassion. In 2010, he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Boy Scouts of America for community dedication and commitment to higher education.

Farm animals are often mistreated and are constantly in need of advocates. Your signature will commend Mr. Arrendale for his tireless work in bettering the lives of farm animals across America by educating industry producers about the benefits of humane operations.
