Target: Steve Troxier, Commissioner for the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
Goal: Reprimand dairy farm for its filthy and unhygienic environment which has lead to pain and infection in numerous cows
Undercover footage has just revealed that a North Carolina dairy farm has been operating under extremely filthy conditions. Cows were filmed wading through almost a foot of their own waste, becoming covered in their own fecal matter until it eventually hardened on their skin. The waste covers nearly every inch of the stable floor, leaving no place for cows to eat or sleep comfortably or hygienically. The soiled livestock have suffered infection and also risk spreading disease via their feces-tainted milk that is harvested in this disgusting atmosphere.
Animal welfare group PETA first broke the shocking news, obtaining secret video recordings of the terrible situation. The dirty living conditions have resulted in cows developing infected sores on their skin and hooves. Many are saturated in the putrid, solidified excrement and appear starved. Most likely the awful stench has diminished the cows’ appetites and they have not been feeding regularly. The combination of malnourishment, filth, and infection has led to many cows resembling little more than standing skeletons.
Further eyewitness reports describe a limping cow with an overgrown hoof and another that has had incessant nosebleeds, probably hinting at a sinus infection. All of these animals have yet to receive proper medical treatment. In addition, PETA notes that “It is virtually impossible to clean cows’ flanks and udders before milking, which creates a serious food safety threat.”
Sign the following petition and urge North Carolina’s health inspectors to cite the farm for creating hazardous living conditions. No living being should be forced to eat, sleep, and live in its own waste.
Dear Mr. Troxier,
I am shocked at the recent undercover footage of a North Carolina dairy farm’s disgusting housing conditions. The video shows cows wading through at least a foot of their own excrement and urine, forced to eat and sleep in the same area where they relieve themselves. The unmitigated filth has resulted in infected and malnourished cows, and may possibly pose a health risk to humans via tainted milk.
Further eyewitness accounts describe a severely limping cow with an overgrown hoof. Another cow has been suffering chronic nosebleeds, possibly indicating a sinus infection. The livestock appear withered and malnourished, and all have been denied medical attention. The feces-saturated environment has most likely depleted the cows’ appetites and has led to very serious physical symptoms.
If no action is taken, these innocent animals could die slow, agonizing deaths and dozens may be in danger of drinking contaminated milk. For this reason, I urge you to cite the dairy farm for clear health code violations and demand hygienic living conditions for these cows. Please, punish the people who forced these cows to marinate in their own waste.
