Investigate Dog Torture on Marine Corps Base

Target: Honorable Ray Mabus, Secretary of the Navy

Goal: Punish marines for maliciously torturing a dog and leaving it on the street to die.

A husky puppy was recently found beaten and malnourished on a Marine Corps base in California. The five-month-old dog had his hind legs shattered and his mouth secured shut with rubber bands when he was found by a Camp Pendleton animal control officer. The severely malnourished dog, now named Kane, was transported to an animal hospital where he underwent reconstructive orthopedic surgery.

While the dog is expected to make a full recovery, he will carry the scars of his trauma for the rest of his life. Several of Kane’s adult teeth rotted due to the rubber bands binding his mouth and had to be removed. The bands were wound so tightly that the skin and bones of the dog’s snout will be permanently disfigured. Fortunately, a kind soul has already stepped up to pay for Kane’s medical care and adopt him when he has recovered.

According to a spokesperson for the animal rescue that took the dog in, the act of cruelty was committed by a couple currently serving in the United States Marine Corps. Maureen Keo with Ranch Dog Rescue claims that officials have so far failed to conduct a thorough investigation into this shocking act of cruelty, and instead only indicated that they would “speak with” the persons responsible.

This kind of shocking cruelty was not only deliberate, but clearly committed out of malice. This cruelty is unbecoming of the United States Marine Corps and should be dealt with in a more serious fashion. Sign the petition below to demand that an investigation is launched into these claims and that the perpetrators are punished accordingly.

Dear Honorable Ray Mabus,

A five-month-old husky puppy was recently found malnourished with broken legs and elastics tied around its mouth on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. The dog, named Kane, required extensive surgery to correct the damage done to him and will carry scars on his face for the rest of his life. The animal rescue that took the dog in is claiming that the dog belonged to and was abused by a couple living on the base.

These actions were clearly malicious and could have resulted in the dog’s death had he not been rescued. Particularly for a member of the United States Marine Corps, this conduct is appalling. Unfortunately, Camp Pendleton officials have not made any serious effort to investigate the claims. We, the undersigned, demand that this issue be treated with more seriousness and that a proper investigation is launched into these claims.
