Target: Chinese Tourism Board
Demand: Stop cruel pig diving contest.
The Chinese Tourism Board hosted a May Day “celebration” which featured a diving contest performed by young pigs. Sources report that the pigs, each with its own number painted on, are herded onto a ramshackle bridge then pushed off with a stick into the lake below. The animals then swim to the shore.
The board has received harsh criticism for this strange event, many saying that it is animal cruelty. The event’s organizer, Shi Huang, denies any wrongdoing saying that the pigs actually enjoyed being forced off of the bridge. He says “They get well rewarded with food and once they get over their nerves they clearly enjoyed it. Anybody who says it is cruel is clearly not well informed that pigs like water.” He even plans to hold the event weekly because of its popularity.
This contest is abuse and must be stopped immediately.
Dear Mr. Huang,
Your pig diving contest, held in celebration of May Day, is animal cruelty despite what you may think. Although pigs do enjoy water, no animal enjoys being forced off of a bridge. The pigs cannot defend themselves and have no say in the matter.
We the undersigned demand that you stop this contest immediately.
