Don’t Feed Zoo Animals to Each Other in Cruel Contingency Plan

Target: Verena Kaspari, Director of the Tierpark Neumünster Zoo

Goal: Do not feed the animals in the Tierpark Neumünster Zoo to each other.

The Tierpark Neumünster Zoo in Germany had allegedly released a statement earlier this year stating that they would be prepared to slaughter animals in their zoo in order to save the larger ones. This plan is reported to be a contingency plan if their funds were to run out due to COVID-19 and a decrease in tourist revenue. The Director of the zoo, Verena Kaspari, has been quoted saying that they will ensure their 12-foot tall polar bear, Vitus, is prioritized over the other animals.

This is an unacceptable idea. The Tierpark Neumünster Zoo is home to about 700 animals, and no information has been released as to which ones would be sacrificed. Keeping wild animals in captivity for no purpose but human entertainment is already a source of moral debate. Many zoos have reported increased rates of depression in animals since the COVID-19 Pandemic began due to animals receiving even less stimulation from the outside world. Sacrificing the animals that make up a zoo sets a dangerous precedent that results in zoos becoming glorified exotic animal farms.

A zoo that is allegedly willing to kill the animals under its care has no place caring for threatened and endangered species. Putting a plan in place like the one the Tierpark Neumünster Zoo has been accused of proposing leads to fewer safe places for endangered species recovery programs. It perpetuates a culture in which animal abuse is tolerated, and concern for the wellbeing of the animals that make up the zoo is put on the back burner. Please sign this petition today demanding that the Tierpark Neumünster Zoo recant its violent proposal and commit to the care of every animal within its walls.

Dear Director Kaspari,

The Tierpark Neumünster Zoo has been accused of proposing to kill off some of its animals to feed to its larger, predatory animals. This proposal sets an unacceptable moral precedent that perpetuates a culture of animal abuse within zoos.

Zoos should be a place of shelter for the animals they house. These species should be respected, and their care should be prioritized over making a profit. There are many options other than sacrificing animals to each other. Zoos have been kept afloat through community donations or through selling off the animals whose care they can no longer afford. Please don’t let the Tierpark Neumünster Zoo turn into a slaughterhouse. Take back the alleged plan to sacrifice the animals to each other and publicly commit to caring for every animal under your care.

  1. How stupid are these ?people?

  2. Patrick Butler says:

Are you serious? What an outrage! Think about feeding child molesters and rapists to the animals instead!

  3. Mary J Zambrana says:

Zoos worldwide are also facing the fact that some or many of the captive animals will starve due to lack of food. However, once a zoo takes an animal in, that zoo is responsible for its safety and health. There are sponsors for thousands of zoos and sanctuaries to offset the lack of income due to the coronavirus pandemic. Those sponsors, as well as the German government, should be the first asked for help in feeding the animals.
Zoos can be a source of saving endangered species or hell holes of neglect.
Search all methods for relief before the proposed slaughter of one to feed the other. It could be that zoos can work together to ensure that they can all exist.

Agree 100% with all others comments!!!

  6. This is an outrageous idea and must be stopped.

  7. Jacqui Skill says:

  8. yes and animal abusers too!

  9. Stephanie S. says:

Verena Kaspari should be fed to Vitus, either that or she should take a pay cut and help pay to feed all the animals at her zoo!!! Outrageous! The animals are the zoo’s responsibility. If they cannot care for them they should send them to sanctuaries around the world and shut down!

  10. Evan Jane Kriss says:

This plan is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and a breach of the mandate of the zoo, whose duty is to CARE FOR ALL ANIMALS in their charge. If they are unable or unwilling to properly care for any animal, they have a MORAL AND ETHICAL OBLIGATION to surrender them to an organization or an individual that can. Anything less is an EGREGIOUS DERELICTION OF DUTY, and a CRIMINAL OFFENSE- ANIMAL ABUSE. Unimaginable that this would even be considered. The world is watching and we will not look away.

  12. Perhaps this is an homage to their great-grandparents who made lampshades out of Jewish skin. Mustn’t waste.

  13. Tina Baker says:

They need to stop capturing animals n leave them where they belong. Damn ppl think they God but their actually devils

  14. I have worked as a Forensic Mental Health Professional and trauma therapist for over 25 years. During this time, I have contracted with jails, prisons, and community corrections in various states, after working as a correctional officer for a few years. I can attest that there is a very strong correlation between the way people treat animals of any kind and the way they can all-too-easily, and without hesitation, remorse, or empathy, treat fellow human beings. If you would not want your son, daughter, sister, brother, grandchild, or parent treated this way, take a stand and sign every petition against animal abuse that you can find – wild and domestic, in the USA and across the world! YES, the pictures & videos are heart-wrenching but ignoring them does not solve the problem. Be brave for the innocent; when you ignore this cruel, heart-less behavior, you are giving more power to the abusers.

When money speaks louder than morals, there is always a problem. We need to STOP letting ego, greed, and selfishness destroy the world.

  15. Loretta Kessler says:

    This is disgusting. Stop

  16. Kathleen I Nagy-DeRosa says:

Why don’t you empty your prisons and feed the derelicts to the carnivores. That should then free up enough money to pay for food for the herbivores. Sound ludicrous? Not as ludicrous as your crazy idea. It’s a shameful dereliction of duty on your part to not be the steward of the animals that have made you money for all of the years the zoo was in business. It’s disgusting that you would even think to do something so sinister. Send them all off to accredited sanctuaries where they will be cared for and do it quickly before the money for food runs out. It’s the right thing to do and you know it. Sickening to say the least.
