Target: Dr. Betty Goldentyer, Deputy Administrator of Animal Care, U.S. Department of Agriculture

Goal: Revoke licenses of animal breeding facilities that allegedly kept thousands of chinchillas in filthy, unsafe conditions.

Two animal breeding companies allegedly forced hundreds of chinchillas to live in putrid, excrement-filled facilities and failed to treat sick animals or clear dead bodies from the enclosures. A USDA inspection report released to the public indicated horrific living conditions for these innocent animals, many of which appeared to be lethargic, infected, and even wounded.

The USDA has filed a formal complaint against Moulton Chinchilla Ranch, whose hearing has been postponed because of the pandemic. It has not filed a complaint against Ryerson Chinchilla Ranch, who has been cited for using “painful” and “unacceptable” methods of euthanasia and also allegedly kept chinchillas in shockingly inhumane conditions. Demand that the USDA revoke the licenses of both facilities to put an end to this alleged cruelty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Dr. Goldentyer,

USDA reports have indicated that Moulton Chinchilla Ranch and Ryerson Chinchilla Ranch are keeping hundreds of chinchillas in filthy, unsafe environments and failing to administer proper veterinary care. This alleged violation of the Animal Welfare Act is cruel and inexcusable.

These facilities have received citations for similar violations in the past, but they do not appear to have made any significant efforts to improve their standards of care, based on these recent reports. I urge you to put an end to this alleged abuse and revoke the licenses of Moulton Chinchilla Ranch and Ryerson Chinchilla Ranch.

Sincerely,

  1. Chinchillas belong in the WILD – NOT KEPT IN CONFINEMENT IN CAGES!! THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE ANIMALS HAVE UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTAL HABITATS AND THEY NEED TO STAY IN THEIR UNIQUE HABITATS AND ENVIRONMENTS.

  2. This has to stop. Companies are using the excuse that the animal is destined for death in order to produce their product so it doesn’t matter how they are treated before they are killed. That’s backwards and medieval; they should be taking care of these animals out of respect for the fact that this innocent animal will be killed to make them rich and treat their meal ticket with respect and decent care until their death. Let also be real, there is no excuse for raising an animal to kill for its fur, that’s depraved and ridiculous- we do not need to wear rodents or any other type of animal, it’s not 1810, it’s 2020.

  3. Press charges! They can not get away with the animal abuse/ murdered! Be a voice for those without and protect these helpless animals now!! This must stop!! Charge these people and please make sure these poor animals a safe for life!!!

  4. THIS EVIL MAN ONLY INTEREST IS BREEDING MONEY–PLEASE TREAT AND RELEASE THESE SENTIENT ANIMALS BACK INTO THEIR HABITAT–THE WILD.

  5. Quit killing animals for fur!!!!
