Target: Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York
Goal: Praise a plan to protect and preserve declining pollinator species.
Pollinators such as bees, bats, birds, and butterflies, are protected by a new plan that hopes to preserve pollinator habitat and increase sustainable farming practices. Pollinators are vital to our agriculture industry and this plan will ensure that pollinators receive the respect and admiration that they deserve. Support this progressive conservation effort that hopes to increase pollinator populations.
Known as the Pollinator Protection Plan, this incredible mission will improve the declining pollinator populations in New York State. Every year, New York spends 500 million dollars on pollinator services for agricultural purposes. This plan will hopefully naturally increase pollinator populations as well as decrease this hefty yearly price tag. The plan will designate thousands of dollars toward pollinator research, foster public education about pollinators, develop habitat enhancement projects, and educate landowners on pollinator management practices.
Pollinators help our agricultural industry by carrying pollen from one flower to the other, ultimately aiding in the reproduction cycle of plants. Nearly one out of every three bites of food in the United States is provided by these busy pollinators. New York has a large agricultural industry and state crops like apples, onions, cherries, pumpkins, and cauliflower rely heavily on pollinators for success.
Pollinators have experienced a steady decline in our nation due to habitat loss, use of pesticides, lack of genetic diversity, and the introduction of parasites and pathogens. We need to cherish these creatures, not treat them like pests. By signing this petition, you are thanking the Governor of New York for implementing this essential and beneficial plan.
Dear Governor Cuomo,
Pollinators are a critical component of our agriculture industry by aiding in the process of plant reproduction. However, our nation is suffering from a decline of these sensitive yet vital beings. I want to thank you for standing up for pollinator species through your Pollinator Protection Plan.
This plan will aid in pollinator research, increase education about pollinators, preserve pollinator habitat, and encourage sustainable land practices around the state. Your progressive decision will not only save pollinator populations but will also reduce the cost of pollination services that New York spends each year. New York’s apples, cherries, onions, cauliflower, pumpkins, and many other food crops will benefit from this plan. I applaud you for protecting pollinators and I hope that other states are inspired by this plan and do the same.
