Protect Migratory Birds From Death By Copper Mines

Target: Donald Trump, President of the United States

Goal: Prevent migratory birds from certain death in copper mines by maintaining and enforcing conservation law.

Billions of migratory birds could die painfully in copper mines due to the relaxation of a 50-year conservation effort. The birds are currently protected by fear of criminal prosecution under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, a threat that may soon disappear under the Trump administration. Demand that migratory birds continue to receive these life-saving protections.

“Removing that obligation, if it stands, over the next several decades will result in billions of birds being casualties. It will be catastrophic,’ stated former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe. Ashe is referring to the method of using sirens and loud pops from propane cannons to dissuade birds from landing in poisonous open pit copper mines. Currently this preventative is mandated under threat of prosecution, but the Trump administration is hoping to deem bird deaths caused by oil companies, utilities, and other industries as accidents instead. This removes the option of law enforcement and makes this effort entirely voluntary.

Companies must be held to certain conservation standards in order to maintain the migratory bird population. Sign below and demand that this law be upheld.

Dear President Trump,

Billions of birds have been saved from painful deaths in toxic waste pools over the last 50 years due the enforcement of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The mandatory use of sirens and loud noises to deter the birds from landing in these pools has successfully saved lives. Now, that mandate is under threat of being relaxed due to the selfish desires of politicians and those who cater to the oil and gas industry.

This is unacceptable. You may believe that all industry giants will continue to comply with the rules voluntarily, but that is not likely the case. Laws keep companies from becoming lazy in their enforcement of conservation efforts. Eventually, a company will reduce its use of noises or end their efforts completely, resulting in the inevitable demise of innocent birds.

I demand that you stop prioritizing industry over conservation and end your attack on the environment at once.

I’m signing this as a symbolic act.
Trump doesn’t care if birds die.
Trump doesn’t care if WE die.
