Help Former Lab Animals Find Loving Homes

Target: Nevada Senator Mark Manendo

Goal: Support requirement that labs offer animals up for adoption before being euthanized.

Nevada Senator Mark Manendo introduced and sponsored a bill that would require all laboratories to offer tested animals up for adoption before euthanizing them. The original measure also had the stipulation that animals could not be tested on for more than two years. Before the introduced legislation, laboratories were required to euthanize their animals.

The bill was intended to give animals a chance at life after being enclosed in labs, as long as they were healthy enough. Dogs are often used in lab testing, particularly the well-behaved and mild-manner beagle breed. However, the Senate recently passed a much milder version of the bill. The new legislation was passed unanimously, and gave labs the option to give the animals up for adoption, but will not require it. It also gave no cap on how long the laboratories can keep the animals.

Although the original bill was not passed, this milder bill is one step closer to a more animal-friendly world. It is not enough that laboratories have the option to give their animals up for adoption, but it should be required. There is no reason why laboratories should immediately euthanize animals and keep them their entire lives. Support the requirement for labs to offer animals up for adoption after two years maximum of testing by signing the petition below.

Dear Senator Manendo,

Your proposed bill to require laboratories to offer their lab-tested animals for adoption has recently been passed in a lesser form. Lab animals are often neglected and forgotten, and now they have the opportunity to be released from the laboratories to find a loving home.

Your work to give lab animals rights has been noticed and appreciated. In an ideal world, there would be no animal testing. However, this legislation is a step forward to a world where animals are given the rights they deserve. Please continue to work for the rights of animals everywhere, and work for the adoption of laboratory-tested animals.

  1. Ban testing on animals

  2. Guillaume LAURENCIN says:

    1.) Ban testing on animals
2.) For animals who were previously used for tests, labs have to offer them a beautiful end of life. Or else their boss have to be euthanasiés too

  3. Linda Amundson says:

Sorry that I’m not thrilled that the White Coat Welfare Lobby got the mandatory adoption part thrown out. Not only is animal testing outdated and barbaric but it’s inaccurate.

The USA will never be civilized as long as we continue to test on animals (because they can’t vote), continue with puppy mills (which we could easily end if we tried), and continue to merely slap the wrist of animal abusers, and on and on. These small steps are taking too long.

  4. put these animals up for adoption from the Labs and don’t wait 2o years to do it get it sorted ASAP. they deserve a loving home after what you lot have put them through.
