Applaud Rescue of Black Bear Family From Death

Target: Animal activist community

Goal: Thank those who put their voices forward to save a family of innocent black bears.

Governor Bill Walker of Alaska stepped in to stop the euthanization of a family of wild black bears–a mother bear and her four cubs–thanks to the support and petitions created by hundreds of concerned citizens.

The decision was reported early Saturday morning after the intense public outcry urged the governor to step in and prevent the Fish and Game Department from going through with their plan to kill the entire family. The black bear family had been getting into the garbage of local residents and putting citizens in danger. The fault of the issue, however, truly lies with the local residents on Government Hill, not the mother and cubs.

According to the Fish and Game Commission, the simple act of securing trash would prevent this type of situation from even occurring. When a wild animal finds a new and easy food source, it can be difficult to stop the animal from frequently drawing from that source. This caused an issue because some animals can be relocated yet still travel back to places inhabited by people. The original decision was to kill the bears to fix the problem, but it seems unfair to simply kill another living creature because it conveniences us to do so, rather than taking the time to find a humane solution.

Hundreds of people got word of this injustice and made calls, shared petitions and did what they needed to stop this from happening, and because of your help and support, they were saved. A humane solution has been found and the bears will be relocated. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in saving this innocent family from a horrible death.

Dear Animal Activists,

Thanks to everyone who lent their support in saving a family of five black bears. The petition letters and general outcries from the public reached all the way to Alaska Governor Bill Walker’s office, who stepped in to stop the killing of the innocent bear family.

Black bears have gained more attention in the media lately, but it’s your actual involvement that brings about change in these animal’s lives. It is important to keep pressure on officials and wildlife departments to find humane alternatives to the animal problems we face.

Thanks to your hard work signing petitions and sharing the story of these ill fated animals, this mother bear can now live peacefully with her four cubs.
