Target: Mr. Han Changfu, Chinese Minister of Agriculture
Goal: Put an end to cruel fur farming in China
Fifty million animals are killed for their fur each year and eighty percent of all pelts come from China. In fact, China supplies the United States with over fifty percent of all imported furs. Even products with “Made in Europe” labels, may use animal pelts that come from abused and savagely killed animals from Chinese fur farms.
Sadly, there are no regulations to protect animals in China’s fur farms. It is common for cats and dogs to be stolen from yards and streets and then later killed and marketed as rabbit fur. Electrocution and gassing are too expensive for many fur farms, so they resort to gruesome methods of incapacitating animals. Animals are bludgeoned, slammed on pavement, and have their heads kicked in. Oftentimes, animals are not dead before the skinning process takes place. Live animals have their skin ripped from their flesh while they hang by their limbs writhing in pain. Once the bodies of animals have been detached from their fur, the bodies are thrown into piles where many animals continue to breath and squirm for up to ten minutes after being skinned alive.
The treatment of animals on fur farms is despicable. Animals can be housed and slaughtered in whatever manner best suits the farm owners. This often means unsanitary, dangerous, and stressful living conditions and an almost guaranteed brutal slaughter. We must let the Chinese government know that we are strongly apposed to the lack of regulations protecting animals and that we do not support their fur trade. Tell China to put an end to the barbaric treatment of fur-farm animals and to end the fur trade.
Dear Mr. Han,
The fur industry in China is responsible for the savage and mortifying slaughter of eighty percent of all animals killed for fur each year. The treatment of these animals on fur farms is despicable, savage, and immoral. It is cruel to skin animals alive, and something must be done about this practice.
I urge China to introduce legislation that puts an end to the existence of fur farms. The current lack of monitoring and lack of repercussions for the inhumane treatment of animals is reproachable. Animals are fully capable of feeling pain and ripping furs off of living flesh must be prohibited. Protect animals from cruel slaughter and put an end to fur farms.
