Applaud Safety Review of Dangerous Horse Race

Grand National

Target: Natalie Bennet of the European Green Party Leader

Goal: Support and encourage efforts to make horse racing safer, or end the practice altogether.

The Grand National is an extremely popular event near Liverpool, England. It is said to be the most famous horse race in the world, attracting an average of 600 million viewers. During the Grand National, the safety of the horses and riders are compromised. Natalie Bennet, the leader of the Green Pary in Europe, is leading a review of the race to assess dangers associated with it. If the Green Party wins in the coming elections Bennet plans to improve the safety of the races and possibly ban them.

Bennet wishes to address the Grand National because there are obvious animal wellness issues with the sport. Horses trip and fall often, and they fall hard. Inevitably, the riders fall with the horses. Horses suffer from broken bones, torn muscles and ligaments, as do their riders. Should the Green Party be the next form of government for England, this treatment of the horses will be assessed and, depending on the results of the investigation, the sport may be banned.

The Green Party wishes to address animal protection issues in many different industries if it is allowed leadership in England. Thank Party Leader Bennet for her dedication to the animals of England by signing this petition.

Dear Ms. Bennet,

Many different species that reside in England are mistreated every day. From badgers to horses, animals are killed or maimed in the names of entertainment and conservation. You and your colleagues in the Green Party wish to put an end to the unnecessary suffering of animals; for this I and the undersigned thank you.

I would particularly like to address the Grand National horse race. You have pledged to investigate the race and put an end to it if proof emerges that the horses are treated terribly. There are obvious safety concerns in regard to the race already; in fact, a headline photo for this past race shows a horse upside down after a bad fall, with its rider on the ground beside it. This is obviously not a freak accident. These horses are put through so much danger and stress; someone needs to be their hero.

Thank you for standing up for the horses, and badgers and greyhounds, of England. Your heart is in the right place. I wish you luck in the upcoming election.

  1. Jill Scott says:

Yes, end it altogether. Humans will just have to find some other way to get their kicks that doesn’t involve animal abuse.

  2. Kate Foley says:

All horse racing should be banned. It is so cruel, all racehorses look terrified while racing…but would’nt you be if some vile man was beating you with a whip even though you were already nearly bursting blood vessels to go as fast as possible?
It probably has a lot to do with the fact that horses are prey animals. It is clearly dangerous and nasty for them and it should be stopped sooner rather than later.

    • Agreed, Kate! Same with “chuckwagon” races, and all other rodeo events that use and abuse both horses and other animals! I’ve seen all those whip marks on horses used for both racing and rodeos, as I drive by them in their pastures. There’s no denying this cruelty, only an “ignoring” of it by their “owners.”

      Note to all:
Please also always look for and sign all petitions against the Calgary Stampede’s disgusting, internationally-lauded rodeo (which the Brits’ Royal Couple willingly attended!), and all other rodeos world-wide.

  3. Ellis Toscano says:

They have been killing horses forever at Aintree. Disgusting and sickening race.

  5. Karen Eicholtz says:

What kind of person enjoys watching and/or gambling on animals being hurt for entertainment? It’s as simple as that.

  6. Karen Remnant says:

Think it’s about time they started shooting the jockeys when they get injured!

  7. Christine Bennett says:

    • Right you are!!!!! Animals ae not here for sheer “entertainment” of abnormal humans!!!!! If they want a race they should race against themselves and leave these poor animals alone!!!!!!

  8. good girl go out there and ban the Grand National it is cruel to the horses I have been after this for years. Good old Green party ban as many as you can. Well done. By the way I voted for the Green party in the Election.
