Protect New Zealand’s Kakapo Parrot from Extinction

Target: Eugenie Sage, Minister of Conservation, New Zealand

Goal: Protect the kakapo parrot from imminent extinction.

New Zealand’s kakapo parrot is facing imminent extinction caused by a deadly fungal infection. The spread of this disease must be stopped before it is too late.

Only 150 kakapo parrots are left in the wild. As many as seven have recently died from a deadly lung infection. Even the species in zoos have not been protected. This illness does not help the fate of the species, which has been facing extinction due to habitat loss since the 1990s.

The government must intervene to protect what remains of this species, one of the longest living bird species in the world. To lose them would be a tragedy. Demand that more resources be devoted to protecting this bird, stopping the spread of this deadly disease and securing its habitat from development.

Dear Minister Sage,

The kakapo parrot is facing imminent extinction due to habitat loss and a recent deadly infection spreading throughout the population. Even parrots in the zoo cannot escape this illness. To lose this bird, one of the largest and longest living in the world, would be a tragedy.

I demand that you devote more resources to protecting this species. Help quarantine this deadly disease and stop development from destroying what little remains of the bird’s native habitat.
