Urge Harsh Punishment for Man who Starved Horses to Death

Target: Chris Connolly, Lauderdale County District Attorney

Goal: Advocate for a harsh punishment for the man who severely neglected horses, resulting in many of their deaths

Recently, a man from Lauderdale, Alabama was charged with several counts of animal abuse when his home investigation revealed several dead and severely malnourished horses. The cruel treatment that the horses had endured in the hands of this man are inexcusable, and punishment must be enacted harshly to bring justice to the abused horses.

The investigation of 65-year-old Horace Mearl White’s yard was initiated when one of his neighbors called the Lauderdale county’s animal control. The neighbor called because one of White’s horses escaped into their yard. The escaped horse was in such bad condition that it had to be euthanized.

The County District Attorney Chris Connolly issued a search warrant on White’s property the next day after the call from the neighbor. When authorities responded to White’s 10-acre property, they discovered 15 horses in various states of malnourishment and mistreatment, and 16 horse carcasses. This discovery lead to White’s arrest on 32 counts of animal cruelty. Horace White was then duly ordered into the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

According to the Lauderdale county’s animal control officer Dwayne Oliver, this case “…is probably one of the largest (animal cruelty cases) we’ve had as far as horses.” Officials have stated that the pasture in which the animals were kept was also used as a junkyard, and the horses’ water source was full of green algae.

The 15 horses that survived are being treated. After the horses are brought back to health standards, they will be put up for adoption.

There is no place for such horrid acts of animal cruelty to take place. Perpetrators of animal cruelty need to be treated harshly to deter them from committing further acts of animal abuse, as well as to dissuade other potential animal tormentors from committing such acts. Please sign the petition below to urge the District Attorney to push for a heavy sentence for this horse tormentor to ensure that he does not repeat any act of animal abuse again.

Dear Chris Connolly,

It was shocking to read about Horace Mearl White’s animal cruelty case. Animal cruelty acts such as White’s should never occur in the first place, especially at such a high degree. The cruel treatments that the horses had endured in the hands of this man are inexcusable, and punishment must be enacted harshly to bring justice to the abused horses.

Please ensure that Horace Mearl White receives a heavy sentence to guarantee that he will never commit another act of animal cruelty again.

  1. Kate Foley says:

Why why why do people like him ever have animals in the first place? Seems it can only be because they want to abuse and torture them we really do not need people like him in our world.

  2. Let’s hope he is sentenced to be starved to death.

  3. It is horrible that all those animals suffered so much before anyone did anything. I hope that this monster is severly punished because therre is no excuse for what he did to those poor innocent animals. I hope he is fined, jailed, banned from having or being around any animal and gets psychiatric help as he is sick. I hope all the animals get a wonderful new home as they sure deserve it .

I want to thank everyone who has helped save the horses. Best wishes and good luck to all.

  4. Alice Ahern says:

He and others like him should be banned from ever owning
any kind of animal for the rest of his life

  5. Roberta kirque says:

I sign with heavy heart and applaud those who tirelessly campaign to stop the terrifying abuse escalating out of all proportion. We have bred generations of heartless people with no conscience or interest in the world in which they live. I pray things will get better but fear they cannot as things stand, thanks essentially to that disease called religion!

  6. It is beyond my understanding??? Please LOCK HIM UP AND TROW AWAY THE KEY
