Punish Zoo for Allegedly Poaching Animals from the Wild

Target: Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister at Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Earth Sciences

Goal: Stop zoo from allegedly replacing dead animals with animals from the wild.

At the Delhi Zoo in New Delhi, India, Zoo officials reportedly failed to record the death of at least 50 animals last year. The animals were dying at an alarmingly high rate, and this apparently resulted in zoo officials poaching animals from the wild. During an investigation, the Ministry and Central Zoo Authority claimed that the zoo illegally hunted for monitor lizards, sand boa, rat snakes, tortoises, and two small Indian civets.

This zoo allegedly illegally caught animals from the wild in order to replace the ones that died while under their care. This is not only illegal but morally wrong and there needs to be consequences for their actions. They were apparently only trying to save themselves from being shut down due to the high mortality rate of their animals. Demand improved conditions for the animals in this zoo as well as a management overhaul to ensure that animals stop dying.

Dear Dr. Vardhan,

As you know, the Delhi Zoo has allegedly captured at least 50 animals from the wild in order to replace dead animals at the zoo. The apparent lack of care for these animals has resulted in a high mortality rate. The animals are reportedly illegally poached from the wild and will most likely face the same fate that the animals before them endured. These animals need to have a safe home where they can thrive, instead they are dying at alarmingly high rates. This zoo appears to be a place where animals go to die.

This zoo needs to take responsibility for its alleged illegal actions. There need to consequences. We demand that anyone involved in the poaching of the animals be fired immediately.
