Justice for Raccoons Allegedly Drowned in Cruel Classroom Activity

Target: Brad King, State’s Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida

Goal: Demand that a teacher who allegedly drowned raccoons in a water-filled garbage bin be punished severely if found guilty of committing this inhumane act.

Wild raccoons were allegedly drowned in a garbage bin filled with water as part of a shocking classroom activity in Florida. The high school teacher believed to be responsible is said to have carried out the barbaric act while instructing his students to help out, leaving many of them distraught and their parents outraged. Cruelty has no place in the classroom, and we must demand justice for these innocent raccoons.

“It made me sick. It made me sick to my stomach. It’s terrible,” said the mother of one student, who wished to remain anonymous. In a video reportedly taken by one of the students, a number of raccoons caught in a metal wire trap appeared to be lowered into the water-filled garbage bin. The trap was reportedly then held in place underwater using metal rods as the raccoons struggled for air, desperately trying to get their noses above water for several moments before at last perishing.

The suspected teacher has since been put on paid leave, but it is unclear whether he will face criminal charges for animal cruelty. Sign below to demand that the state’s attorney consider the suffering that these animals endured and the psychological trauma these students faced as a result of this teacher’s reported callous actions.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. King,

A number of wild raccoons are believed to have died a torturous death by drowning at the hands of a Marion County Public Schools high school teacher. The teacher reportedly wanted the raccoons exterminated after several chickens kept in the school’s agricultural program were found dead, and he allegedly instructed several students to assist him in this brutal killing. We do not feel cruelty has a place in our classrooms, and we demand justice for these innocent creatures.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for suspected animal cruelty. If these allegations are true, this teacher must not go unpunished for inflicting such unthinkable suffering on these animals and subjecting his students to psychological distress. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty under law so that justice may be served.

Sincerely,

This Is A Horrible Way To Die. This Teacher Has No Empathy And Should Not Be Around Children. This Teacher Should Be Fired And Never Be Allowed To Be A Teacher Again. This Teacher Should Not Be On Paid Leave, The Teacher Should Be Fired With No Pay.

Brad King, State’s Attorney for the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida,
This heinous, disgusting, criminal act needs swift and punitive action!
Life is life and stronger legislation needs to be looked at and implemented for such blatant regard for life!
Nature doesn’t need humans. Human’s need nature!!

  6. Appalling and Disgusting! I agree with the above comments. NO paid leave. FIRE him and take away his teaching certificate. We need to be teaching empathy, caring and respect. Raccoons are an important part of nature, not something to be tortured and killed. Hold this guy’s head under the water for a long while. Maybe he will learn something because he sure isn’t teaching anything I would want my children to learn.
