Don’t Allow PetSmart to Discriminate Against Pit Bulls

Target: Raymond Svider, Executive Chairman of PetSmart

Goal: Don’t discriminate against Pit Bulls and instead allow them to participate in “Doggie Day Camp”

PetSmart allows Pit Bulls to participate in adoption fairs and other activities, but when it comes to playing with other dogs, they are not allowed. During PetSmart Doggie Day Camp, dogs are given the ability to play and socialize with other dogs—the problem is that the pet store discriminates against certain breeds of dogs that are considered “bully breeds.”

Pit Bulls aren’t the only breed of dogs that PetSmart discriminates against. They also don’t allow American Staffordshire Terriers, Staffordshire Terriers, American Bulldogs, or mixed breeds that have the reputation of being aggressive. This is strictly based on the reputation and appearance of these dogs. The PetSmart policy applies to those that are primarily a “bully breed,” meaning 50 percent or more. Theses dogs are allowed in the stores, but are forced to sit in cages while they watch other dogs play freely. Demand that PetSmart update its biased policy.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Svider,

There have been multiple cases where dogs have been discriminated against due to the ridiculous policy that PetSmart has created during its Doggie Day Camp. Owners bring their animals into the store thinking that they will create a fun environment for their dogs to enjoy. Instead, they are discriminated against and in some cases left in cages while they watch other dogs enjoy their time. This is not fair to the dog when this policy is strictly based on their breed and appearance.

Where does PetSmart draw the line? Why is it that certain breeds of dogs are allowed to participant in Doggie Day Camp while others are not? There needs to be an end to this discrimination. The fact that some dogs are known as “bully breeds” is unnecessary. Every breed of dog deserves a chance, regardless of their reputation. We demand that this policy be revoked and that these breeds be allowed to participate with other dogs in PetSmart.

Sincerely,

  2. Derinda Nilsson says:

Let’s see abuse, discriminate, What is next? PetSmart People Stupid. PetSmart do you realize you have a bad reputation, and your going to lose business. I’m already going to other places for my pet needs. WAKE UP!!!!!

  3. This calls for a boycott of the store. Why would any loving owner force their bully breed to sit in cages watching playtime?! Just don’t do business with this chain. Take your business and puppers elsewhere.

  4. Linda York says:

I have been boycotting the store, as I knew about the discrimination of pit bulls, and I own 2. They really need to clean up their act.

  5. I have never ever met an animal that I have disliked, however I am unable to say the same about all humans!

  6. It seems to me that each dog should be judged individually. Every dog is different. When I signed my shepherd up for doggy daycare she was evaluated before she was accepted. Also, with all the different dogs together at dog parks, there’s hardy ever a problem.

  7. Jacqui Skill says:

PET SMART HAS COMMERCIALS LIKE THEY ARE DOING GOOD ..BUT THEY LIE.. THEY HAVE HAD ANIMAL SUPPLIERS WHO WERE TOTALLY ABUSIVE, THEY LET THE ANIMALS IN THEIR STORE DROWN DURING HURRICANE SANDY IN NY, AND NOW THEY DO THIS TO PIT BULLS..PETSMART IS DECEPTIVE CREEPS AND LIARS!

  8. Mr Svider, There’s absolutely no difference between any breeds at all! It’s the the owner whose at fault! Stop PetSmarts discrimination Now! Please take some time to educate yourself and your employees!
