Stop Tourist Harassment of Kangaroos in China Zoo

Target: Tang Dengjie, Governor of China’s Fujian Province

Goal: Demand zoo in China be forced to lay down stronger anti-harassment rules for tourists.

Two kangaroos in the Fuzhou Zoo in China were struck by bricks thrown by tourists, in an attempt to force them to hop for the tourists’ entertainment. One kangaroo was only mildly injured, but the other incurred more severe damage and died days later. According to reports, this is not the first time tourists have harassed kangaroos at this zoo.

The fact that such harassment is a regular occurrence and has yet to be stopped is terrifying enough, but now an innocent animal has died as a result. Worse, this is an all too familiar story; in the past, tourists have caused great harm to other wildlife or zoo animals by cornering them for selfies or trying to force them to perform tricks. This poor kangaroo is only the latest in a string of victims of thoughtless, selfish tourists. To top it off, it is unknown if the culprits were even punished for their actions.

We cannot allow such behavior to continue at the Fuzhou Zoo. The animals deserve so much better, and we must prevent future kangaroo deaths down the line. Sign this petition to demand the Fuzhou Zoo implement and enforce stronger rules protecting its kangaroos from tourist harassment.

Dear Governor Dengjie,

A kangaroo in a local zoo’s care was recently killed by tourists throwing bricks; another kangaroo in the same enclosure was injured, though he luckily survived. According to news reports, this sort of harassment from tourists towards kangaroos is a regular occurrence, as tourists will do all sorts of cruel things in order to force the animals to hop for their entertainment.

You cannot allow this to continue. While the Fuzhou Zoo is the one spotlighted for such things, it is likely that other zoos in the Fujian province are allowing this to go on as well; tourist harassment of animals is a highly disturbing trend in this day and age. In order to prevent the deaths of more innocent kangaroos, you must implement and enforce new laws against such depraved behavior from tourists.

Not a fan of the Chinese these days. This is common as a majority of Chinese have no concern for animal feelings or welfare.
Must drive the minority of decent Chinese people nuts.
