Target: Zhang Ruobo, CEO of China’s Hunan TV
Goal: Cancel the show “Wonderful Animals,” which puts animals through unnecessary abuse and stress for human entertainment.
A new Chinese show entitled “Wonderful Friends” on Hunan TV features celebrities doing weird tasks and challenges with zoo animals like elephants, lions, tigers and chimpanzees. Some of the odd tasks include celebs giving elephants pedicures and dressing up chimpanzees in Superman costumes. Protect the health and well-being of zoo animals and demand that this abusive television program be canceled immediately.
On one episode, a father chimpanzee was showing clear signs of anxiety and distress after being separated from his child for a task on the show. Having untrained people handling the animals and performing these cruel tasks not only distresses the animals, but it can pose health risks for both the humans and animals by transmitting disease between them.
Unfortunately, the show has a large viewership and has become very popular, which has led its creators to come up with even more abusive and crazy tasks for the animals to go through. One Green Planet alleges that the producers of the show don’t have the license to feature the show’s animals. The site also claims China’s Conservation Department and Press Office of the State Forestry Administration (SFA) was unaware the show was even happening and whether or not it had proper paperwork.
With the animals showing signs of distress during these cruel acts, the risk of health problems and disease for both the animal and human participants, and the allegations that the show is violating animal welfare laws, this show must be canceled. By signing this petition, you will urge Hunan TV’s CEO to cancel the show once and for all.
Dear Mr. Ruobo,
The new show “Wonderful Friends” features celebrities doing odd tasks involving zoo animals. These tasks are not only odd, but they are abusive to the animals and causing them distress. On one episode, a father chimpanzee was showing clear signs of anxiety and distress after being separated from his child for a task on the show.
Having untrained celebrities handling the animals is not only a danger to both animal and human participants, but it also runs the risk of health problems like transmitting disease. Allegedly, this show may not even have the proper paperwork and licensing to be featuring these protected animals for human entertainment on television. I urge you to cancel “Wonderful Friends” and stop the unnecessary cruelty to animals that it’s causing.
