Urge Lead Actor in Film Accused of Animal Abuse to Donate Salary

Target: Matthew Morrison, Actor in “Crazy Alien”

Goal: Urge Morrison to donate a portion of his salary from Crazy Alien to animal rights charities.

A crew member from the forthcoming film Crazy Alien has reported alleged animal abuse on set. While the Chinese science fiction movie was being filmed, a member of the set sent a video to PETA of a German Shepherd allegedly being mistreated while shooting a stunt. PETA subsequently made the video sent in by the crew member public.

The crew member said in discussion with PETA, “I witnessed firsthand one of the worst animal cruelty acts I have ever seen.” The scene involving the alleged animal abuse is one in which a caged dog is sent airborne and lands a distance away from its starting point. This scene was reportedly shot with a live dog in the cage. Describing the stunt, the crew member said, “The second dog cage rose into the air; the dog stopped barking instantly as the cables were used to spin the cage out of control in circles before solidly landing 40-50 feet away. The director took many takes, and this was just awful to witness as the torment went on.”

In another scene, the crew member reports further alleged mistreatment of animals: “The next shot was at the river’s edge where the dog was put back into his cage and tormented into a frenzy once again. This time… the cage… was hoisted 20 feet and was flung while spinning out of control towards the river. … [T]he cage was completely submerged with the dog in it, landing in a 10-mph current. After 5-8 seconds, the director yelled out ‘cut.’” Allegedly, director Hao Ning filmed this scene multiple times.

PETA reported that numerous scenes with the dog were filmed over a two-hour period without giving the dog any type of break. TMZ sources, who were present on the set, reported that the dog did seem “shaken up” but without any physical injuries. Actor Matthew Morrison took to Twitter to state that he was not on set during the filming of the scenes with the animal but that he had seen video. He expressed his disapproval and outrage to the producers. Sign this petition to urge Matthew Morrison—who will benefit monetarily from the movie regardless of his stance on animal rights—to donate a portion of his salary to animal rights charities.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Morrison,

There have been allegations of animal abuse on the set of Crazy Alien. According to the reports of a crew member, a German Shepherd was used in stunts that involved being thrown and submerged in a cage. The crew member said, “The second dog cage rose into the air; the dog stopped barking instantly as the cables were used to spin the cage out of control in circles before solidly landing 40-50 feet away. The director took many takes and this was just awful to witness as the torment went on.”

Although TMZ sources on set reported that the dog seemed to suffer no physical injuries, this type of treatment towards animals in a film is unacceptable. You have stated in a tweet that had you been on the set at the time these scenes were filmed, you would have done everything you could to stop it. While your statement speaks volumes, it is still a plain fact that you will benefit monetarily from being in this film, while the dog allegedly suffered. I urge you to donate at least a portion of your salary from Crazy Aliens to animal rights charities to help support the proper treatment of animals.

Sincerely,
