Justice for Raccoon Allegedly Run Over by Police

Target: 1st Sergeant Daniel Contento, Acting Chief of Police for Coeymans, New York

Goal: Punish police officers who allegedly ran over a raccoon using their patrol vehicle with the intent of killing it.

A raccoon was allegedly targeted by several upstate New York police officers and run over using their squad car. Video footage reveals that the car struck the racoon numerous times before it succumbed to its injuries and died. Demand justice for this innocent animal.

While the raccoon was later confirmed to have rabies, this does not excuse the officers’ alleged cruel and disturbing behavior. If the animal was suspected to be diseased, there are far more humane ways of ending his or her misery without subjecting him or her to minutes of terror and agony, like this poor raccoon likely endured. No matter how sick the animal may have been, no creature deserves to be tortured.

The chilling video, taken by an eyewitness, demonstrates the need for police officers to be properly trained in how to humanely deal with animals and for all acts of violence to be punished severely. Sign this petition to demand that the officers allegedly responsible be penalized for their cruel and thoughtless actions.

Dear Sergeant Contento,

Several officers in your department reportedly ran over a racoon in a grocery store parking lot numerous times, ultimately leading to its demise. While this animal was later confirmed to be rabid, this does not excuse the officers’ reported actions, which subjected the racoon to nearly 15 minutes of pain and terror. There are far more humane ways of dealing with a rabid animal that do not involve charging at them with a patrol vehicle.

This incident highlights a need for better training and compassion toward animals for the officers under your command. We, the undersigned, urge that you penalize the officers allegedly responsible and commit to enforcing higher standards of behavior for all members of your force.

  3. This is such sick behavior. There is no reason on this earth why anyone, let alone a cop to do such a horrible act of murder. There are humane ways to handle this kind of situation. All involved need to be held accountable.

this is another case of police having no feelings for animals when is this going to stop what the hell is wrong with this world when a cop is allowed to do this

  5. what a douche bag!!!

  6. Anne Hosier says:

I’m not surprised that this happened. It’s just another sick example of police exerting their power and authority on the smallest of beings. With no compassion (something that is absolutely necessary in a police officer’s psyche) or empathy (ditto), people like this believe they are invincible, all powerful, in control of anything that breathes. Obviously police agencies in this country do very little in doing background checks on the people they hire to carry guns and drive a big ass vehicle capable of killing. Disgraceful, deplorable, diabolical people. Is there any wonder people are becoming more anti-establishment.

  8. Jaime Perez Jaime Perez says:

There was no excuse for this horrible act. This raccoon could have been captured and humanely euthanized. These officers need to be punished for this heinous murder of an innocent animal.

  9. Hang the bastards by the balls.
