Success: Elephants Will Soon No Longer Be Used in Popular Circus

Target: Ingrid E. Newkirk, President of PETA

Goal: Thank animal rights organization for helping to end the use of elephants in abusive circus acts.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus will soon no longer be using elephants to perform in their shows, though many animal rights advocates never thought the day would come. Instead, these animals will be retired within the next few years.

Because the circus is concerned about how the public views the welfare of these animals, the circus elephants will be retired to the company’s 200 acre sanctuary by the year 2018. One elephant will also be given back to the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas. Due to awareness raised by PETA and other animal welfare advocates from reputable organizations like ForceChange, money that was once used to fight legislation to ban the use of elephants in circuses will now likely go towards taking care of the elephants’ needs.

PETA is anticipating the change, as they have fought and spoken out against the abuse of elephants in circuses for the past 35 years. Sign this petition and thank Ingrid E. Newkirk, the President of PETA, PETA members and other animal welfare advocates for spending massive amounts of time and energy fighting for the welfare of these wonderful animals. Without everyone pulling together to make this change, this horrific abuse would not be scheduled to stop.

Dear President Newton,

On behalf of the animal right’s community, we would like to thank you for helping to raise awareness about why it is cruel to use elephants in circuses. While many people thought it would never happen, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Circus will be retiring these animals to an animal sanctuary within the next few years.

Money which was once used to fight the circus’s cruel treatment of these animals can now be used to make sure these elephants have what they need in order to live out the rest of their lives in peace. Although taking this action is only one step in the right direction, it is our hope that the use of elephants and other animals in circuses will soon be banned altogether. Maybe someday they will all be given acres of land to roam around instead of being abused by cruel circus owners.

Thank you very much for your help, and please know that the animal right’s community stands with you in your efforts to continue making these positive changes. We are excited about this great news, and we can’t wait to see what lies ahead for these stunningly beautiful and majestic creatures.
