Stop City From Killing Coyotes

Target: Jimmy Carroll, Mayor of Isle of Palms, South Carolina

Goal: Reverse the decision to slaughter coyotes.

Allegedly, the city of Isle of Palms, South Carolina has hired a contractor to kill coyotes as a means of population control. Killing coyotes is not only cruel, but an inefficient way to control the population.

Reportedly, the contractor will set steel-jaw traps around the city and will then transport the ones caught out of the city to be killed. Trapping is incredibly barbaric as panicked animals will go to desperate attempts to escape, including chewing off their own limbs. In addition, trapping can catch non-targeted animals as well as protected wildlife. It is time to look into alternative, more humane methods of population control.

Sign this petition to demand the city reverse its decision to kill coyotes. Not only is trapping and killing horribly inhumane, but it is also ineffective.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Carroll,

It recently came to my attention that Isle of Palms has reportedly hired a contractor to trap and kill coyotes. Not only is killing coyotes an ineffective method of population control, but it is also incredibly cruel. I’m urging you to look into alternative, more humane methods.

Trapping does not immediately kill an animal, but puts them in a lot of pain. Trapped animals often panic and will go to desperate attempts to escape, including chewing off their own limbs. It is truly a horrific scene. In addition, research shows that mass killings do not lower the population. The remaining coyotes breed due to the increase in resources and to replace the lost pack members. Trapping can also catch non-targeted wildlife including endangered species.

Please consider looking into alternative methods to population control. There are methods available that do not cause unnecessary harm and are more effective than killing.

Sincerely,

  1. Linda Hilty-Tuttle says:

How about ‘trap & relocate’ to a more suitable area for them? Why KILL them – they have a right to live the same as the rest of us! Don’t be so damned lazy and blood-thirsty!

  2. Nature must be left alone! This murdering is not the answer! Mankind is destroying the balance of everything by interfering! Stop!

  3. It’s not the coyotes intruding but us, humans with our expanding population and greed. Here in Miami, I heard they have stopped trying to kill “inconvenient” animals because it simply doesn’t work, if you must, use the catch and release method.

  4. Do these people understand the pain and suffering these animals endure — or the fact that other animals and potentially children will be caught in these traps?

  5. If South Carolina follows through with this barbaric plan we should all boycott South Carolina and all their businesses and tell them why. Please share this plan with family and friends.

  6. Derinda Nilsson says:

There has to be a better way to relocate these living breathing animals. This is no way to solve this problem. This is so mean and cruel. I’m sure this is not the way nature intended. Your destroying this wonderful planet with your greed and selfishness. PLEASE STOP KILLING !!!!!

  7. We moved into their area.

  8. END THE KILLINGS OF WILDLIFE EARTH NEEDS NOW.
