Seek Justice For Giggles The Deer

Target: Wisconsin Department of National Resources

Goal: Express outrage at the murder of Giggles the deer

Just one day before she was to be moved to her new home in Illinois, Giggles the fawn was murdered by agents from the Wisconsin Department of National Resources. Giggles was being rehabilitated at a no-kill St. Francis (the patron saint of animals) Society shelter, when nine armed WDNR agents and four armed sheriffs raided the premises and removed Giggles in a body bag.

At only thirty-five pounds, Giggles was named because of the adorable sounds she made, and had recovered her strength during her two-week stay at the shelter. The shelter, registered in Illinois, where it is legal to have wild deer on premises, but located in Wisconsin, where it is not, was waiting until Giggles was strong enough for the stressful journey to her new home, where she would stay until she was old enough to be released into the wild. Despite the fact that she was not sick, the armed law enforcement officials said that the fawn was a disease threat to humans, and euthanized a perfectly healthy animal rather than simply taking her across the border to Illinois. When a shelter volunteer captured photos of the raid on his cell phone, the agents took his phone and deleted the pictures. The shelter staff and the public are outraged and sickened by this senseless violence, and are calling for justice for the helpless baby deer. Add your voice to those taking action against the officials who murdered Giggles in cold blood.

Dear Wisconsin Department of National Resources,

I am outraged and appalled at the senseless violence that your officials wrought upon the St. Francis Society shelter, and the murder of Giggles the fawn who was being rehabilitated there. Your agents reacted to the situation in a way that was unprofessional, cruel, and unnecessary. An armed raid of a shelter is well beyond over-reaction, and shoving a fawn into a body bag to receive euthanasia is abusive and sickening. Not only should the nine agents involved lose their jobs, they should be held criminally responsible for their actions, as should their superiors.
