Protect Critically Endangered Wombat from Extinction

Target: The Honourable Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister of Australia

Goal: Save the critically endangered northern hairy-nosed wombat.

The northern hairy-nosed wombat native to Australia has been upgraded from endangered to critically endangered. Only 250 of these animals remain due to habitat loss, disease, lack of food, and predators such as wild dogs and feral cats. Currently, it is one of 20 mammals listed as a priority for recovery and protection efforts.

We cannot allow this species to disappear. The preservation of wildlife is vital in this day and age, with so many dangers to the environment and the ecosystem present or threatening to present themselves. These small creatures mostly feed on native grasses; their diet does not bring other animals to harm and also helps keep these grasses from overgrowth. Their presence, like that of other wild animals, is important to the ecosystem. Furthermore, they are fairly docile and well behaved creatures, never posing a threat to others.

Conservation efforts are currently being made to keep this species alive, and we must aid and support them as much as possible. Sign this petition to demand the government back these efforts and strengthen their protections of the northern hairy-nosed wombat.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Turnbull,

The northern hairy-nosed wombat has been upgraded to critically endangered due to floods, habitat loss, disease, and predators; only 250 remain in existence. This species is vital to preventing the overgrowth of native grasses and the overall well-being of the ecosystem. They are docile creatures, only seeking food and shelter while never posing a threat to other animals.

Conservation efforts are being made, but that is only the first step. Further steps must be taken via legal protections; its habitat must remain untouched and unspoiled by man, and grasses must be kept pure from poisons or chemicals for them to feed on. They must be vaccinated against diseases as well. Please help keep the northern hairy-nosed wombat from disappearing forever.

Sincerely,

Australia has the HIGHEST rate of animal extinctions in the world…How proud to be an Australian with that title?
Hairy nose wombat down to a couple of hundred, and Koala’s not far behind them.
What the heck is this ‘Lucky Country’ with its diverse, unique wildlife doing here?
    Wake Up Australia!!!!

  2. Donna Riggins says:

Australia was on my bucket list of places to visit because of the vast variety of wildlife there. With all the recent reports of extreme animal abuse and mass exterminations of kangaroos and other animals, I’ve removed them from my list.

  3. Remember the old adage, “the extinction of one is the extinction of the other.” One day, the other could be us.

Please leave these beautiful sentient animals alone! Why do some humans play the role of God? This is so cruel, devastating and upsetting! You do nothing to stop this! Man is killing our environment, our oceans, land and all animals!
