More Jail Time Needed for Animal Abuse Offenders

Target: District Judge Mr. Greg McCourt

Goal: Give longer sentences to convicted animal abusers.

Stanley Porter and Stanley Porter Jr. were found guilty of animal abuse in Northern Ireland after the animals on their farm were found in dreadful circumstances. According to the Guardian, a Pulitzer Prize winning online news website, the district judge said, “It’s one of the worst cases of cruelty in Northern Ireland or anywhere in these islands.” The animals were not given enough food, and water. They were covered in filth.  Only 59 animals were saved, and 75 had to be euthanized.

The Porter’s only received four months of jail time and 10 years of not owning animals. These findings are truly appalling, and they should have received a harsher punishment. Animal abuse should not be taken lightly. Many praised the District Judge Mr. Greg McCourt for convicting them. It’s great that they were found guilty, however that’s not enough. They were told two years ago to clean up their farm from inspectors. That means for years, these animals have been barely living.

By signing this petition, you are demanding justice for mistreated farm animals. You are declaring to the judge that next time he should give animal abusers the maximum sentence. These animals were treated very cruelly, and need you to be their beacon of hope.

Dear District Judge Mr. Greg McCourt,

Stanley Porter’s and his son Stanley Porter Jr.’s conviction for abusing their farm animals was not fitting for their crime. It’s great that they were found guilty, but four months is not enough jail time for their terrible actions. Many described the farm animal conditions as disgusting. It was reported that dead animals were found at the scene. The Porters have been mistreating farm animals for at least two years, which was made clear by the fact that they previously received a warning from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Hurting farm animals is something one should not get away with. Thank you for finding them guilty, but lengthier sentencing next time is necessary for abusers of this nature. It was reported that both men have always been farmers. There could have been countless number of abuse cases throughout their lifetimes of being farmers.

It’s wonderful that they paid fines and can’t own animals for ten years, but still their jail time is too short. Since these animals were treated like trash for so long, the Porter’s sentencing should have been longer than four months.

  1. animal abuse will never end until the penalty fits the crime.

  2. Cecily Colloby says:

WHEN are these idiot Judges going to hand out appropriate sentences??? Ban this pair from EVER going near an animal again and give them 10 years in prison, not 4 laughable months. No wonder animal cruelty never stops when people like these know the Courts are totally spineless, pathetic and inneffectual.

  3. There needs to be more jobs working with animals. All animals should be registered and have people checking on peoples pets even without suspected abuse. This would prevent many pets to be abused in the first place. Old barns, shacks, etc, should be randomly checked. This is one way to create new jobs.
