Target: Governor Jack Markell of Delaware

Goal: Commend approval of laws insistent on strengthening animal welfare in Delaware

The governor of Delaware has approved four important measures designed to strengthen many aspects of animal welfare within the state. The newly developed laws will help animals in shelters, animals wrongly used for fighting other animals, as well as truant animals with no apparent home. These developments will surely be an ally to companion animals within the state, helping them to become better understood, healthy and happy.

Arguably the most important of the three new laws, animals involved in fighting operations will no longer be automatically euthanized after seizure; instead, they will be made available for adoption if their dispositions prove suitable. Animals involved in deadly fighting operations deserve a chance at a happy, safe life. Another of the four measures forming into law will ensure that all animal control officers are properly trained and certified in order to provide the best care to animals in danger, as well stay safe while on duty. The third of the four laws will clear up complicating rules for impounding dangerous dogs. Lastly, the Department of Health and Social Services will, after the Governor’s signature, oversee animal shelters and investigate animal cruelty complaints within these establishments.

These four laws will undoubtedly help less fortunate animals in Delaware. Many animals will now have the ability to find loving homes, and those animals without homes will be treated more humanely. Commend the Governor of Delaware for approving all of these measures, showing his dedication to companion animals.

Dear Governor Jack Markell,

I am writing to commend you for approving four measures designed to help companion animals in Delaware. Because of your signature, shelter animals, animals forced to fight other animals, and truant animals will all be given a chance at a happier life. Animal welfare and respect is extremely important; you are stepping onto the right side of history.

Thank you for passing these measures into law. I urge you to continue to hold the interest of animals in the forefront of your mind, and agenda. Companion animals are not the only animals in need of help; beasts raised for consumption are in need of legal movements designed to make their short lives more bearable. Please consider looking into the plights of factory farmed animals in Delaware.

  1. Thank you for your kindess to animals who are so special.

  2. Kathy Khoshfahm says:

Although we’ve a long way to go regarding animal protection laws, this is certainly four steps in the right direction – and way overdue. How about some tougher penalties for those who torture and murder the Animal Kingdom?
