Stop Boiling Lobsters and Crabs Alive

Target: Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, United Kingdom

Goal: Ban the inhumane culinary practice of boiling lobsters and crabs alive by acknowledging these creatures as sentient beings.

Lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans are capable of experiencing pain, yet they are routinely and unnecessarily boiled to death as part of their preparation as food. However, this could change forever if crustaceans are added as sentient organisms to Britain’s new Animal Welfare Bill, as animal rights advocates are currently proposing.

Crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters and crayfish are all popular forms of seafood. Yet many people are unaware of the horrific treatment they frequently endure as the result of their preparation. Cooks often boil the creatures alive because the meat spoils quickly, yet there are other means of preservation that do not involve subjecting these animals to such a barbaric death.

While it is best to promote entirely cruelty-free, plant-based alternatives to seafood consumption, we should demand that if lobsters and crabs are to be consumed, they must not be killed in such an inhumane manner. Sign this petition to urge the British government to acknowledge the fact that these beings experience pain and to protect them from this cruel treatment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Minister Gove,

Scientific evidence has shown that crustaceans, including crabs and lobsters, are capable of experiencing pain and distress. As a result, they are classified under the European Food and Safety Authority as so-called ‘Class One animals’ that require special humane treatment and considerations as part of food preparation. The fact that your proposed Animal Welfare Bill does not include crustaceans as sentient organisms is a major oversight, and it must be addressed to prevent cruelty to these creatures.

Lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans are frequently subjected to cruel and painful deaths by being boiled alive. This inhumane killing method must be brought to an end. That is why we, the undersigned, demand that you include these creatures in the Animal Welfare Bill and call for a ban on this unethical practice.

Sincerely,

  1. If its alive, it has feelings! When are people going to learn you DO NOT have to kill to live!

  2. This is complete BS and I can’t believe it’s still going on, when it was also common practice DECADES ago to kill lobsters with a quick knife thrust to the brain stem FIRST, to ensure they were dead BEFORE tossing them in boiling water…where you can hear them SCREAM for several minutes. I’m sure crabs could be killed first in a similar manner. “The meat spoils quickly” is just a bald-faced LIE.

  3. Worse, yet, it is believed that if theyb are dropped in alive, their meat has better texture because of the torture. Just like Korea.

  4. Why is it so hard for people to find other food to enjoy, without torture of any living thing or animal. Really?

  5. I always hated seafood but if you must eat it, at least could you be humane about it. And also, we should stop trucking live lobsters from faraway places, that’s also cruel.

How would these monsters who boil these sentient beings alive like also to be boiled alive. I don,t think so. The agony and excruciating agony these precious sentient beings endure would be unimaginable. So this sadism and evilness must be stopped and banned forever. Always the defenceless and innocent tortured by the fucking animal torturing human species.

Just take notice of what the animal torturing Chinese, Koreans and other Vile Asian countries commit against the innocent and precious Dogs, Puppies, Cats, kittens and other helpless sentient beings. It is just pure evil and sadism at its worst.

  10. Boiling animals alive is definitely disgusting an cruel. Please find an alternative if you must kill to eat these crustaceans.
