Punish Man Accused of Running Wildlife Smuggling Ring

Target: Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand

Goal: Punish accused wildlife smuggler to the fullest extent of the law if found guilty.

A Thai man has been arrested on suspicion that he has run a notorious wildlife smuggling ring within Thailand and neighboring Laos. The man, Boonchai Bach, was reportedly found with over a million dollars’ worth of illegal African rhinoceros horns, and authorities believe he has been in charge of a major trafficking network spanning over a decade.

All rhinoceros species are currently in danger of extinction, largely due to poachers and illegal wildlife smugglers. Rhino horns frequently appear on the black market in Asian countries, due to the mistaken belief that they have medicinal properties. Smugglers such as Bach are a key part of this unethical trade, and they must be brought to justice.

Under Thai law, Bach could face a maximum of four years in jail for this latest smuggling offense. However, it is possible that he could also receive a harsher sentence for his other suspected crimes related to wildlife trafficking. Sign this petition to demand that this man be severely punished to the full extent of the law, if he is found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Chan-o-cha,

Boonchai Bach, a man believed to have run a major wildlife trafficking network in Thailand and Laos for over a decade, has been arrested after he was reportedly discovered with over a dozen illegally smuggled rhinoceros horns. Under current Thai law, Bach would only serve a maximum of four years in jail for this serious crime. This does not seem like a fair punishment given his suspected lengthy criminal history.

Rhinoceroses and many other animal species are in eminent danger of extinction thanks to wildlife smugglers who help fuel the black market demand for horns, ivory and other animal parts. Justice must be served to bring an end to this illicit trade. You must ensure that all of Bach’s many alleged offenses be taken into account, and that he is severely punished if he is found guilty.

Sincerely,

  7. The Sumatran Rhino, the Northern White Rhino and at least one other species of Rhino recently said good bye forever. There are only a few more species left now, but not for long. Poaching really hurt their ability to survive. It also caused emense suffering amongst families and individuals.
