Remember Heroic K-9

Target: West Deptford Police Department’s Corporeal Michael Franks

Goal: Pay final respects to Judge and remember his life’s work.

Judge, a nine-year-old Czech German Shepherd, had to be euthanized and was honored at a vigil conducted by the West Deptford Police Department in New Jersey. More than 90 police officers gathered to pay their final respects to the heroic canine, who completed numerous missions with his handler, Corporeal Michael Franks.

According to the police department, Judge started working with Franks in 2007, and during his long career, he managed to catch more than 150 suspects in 280 deployments. He also helped seize three cars, three handguns, multiple drug stashes, and over $47,000 in drug money, proving to be a valuable and vital asset to the department. However, Judge had to retire in 2014 due to issues with his teeth and the diagnosis of Cushing’s disease, which is a condition that results in vomiting, weakness, and hair loss. Although the West Deptford community rallied together to help raise money for Judge’s expensive medical bills, he continued to grow weaker. When Judge could no longer eat or walk, his handler Franks had no choice but to put him down.

Officers and their police dogs from all across South Jersey came to honor Judge, lining the streets leading to the veterinary center where Judge would be euthanized. Along the way, Judge was carrying the K-9 department’s protective arm sleeve, which was his favorite toy.

Please sign this petition to remember and honor Judge, the heroic K-9.

Dear Corporeal Michael Franks,

I would like to pay my respects to your old partner, Judge, who dutifully served as a K-9 in the West Deptford Police Department for seven years. He was not only a valuable member of your force but also a beloved family member, and it is saddening that he had to be taken so soon by a debilitating illness. It must have been an extremely painful decision for you to put him down, but it was the right choice. Judge doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

It is better to remember Judge for all of his achievements. He helped with many of your missions, and even during his sickness, he brought the community together to fight for him. He will always be cherished in the hearts of the officers who knew him and the West Deptford community.

Thank you, Judge, for your service.
