Stop Using Captive Tigers for Selfies

Target: Khun Suan Phanomwattanakul, Founder of the Million Years Stone Park and Crocodile Farm, Thailand

Goal: End the practice of keeping tigers for visitor selfies, and release the park’s tigers to a sanctuary.

A chained tiger is prodded in the face with a red-hot poker by a park employee while visitors pose with the tiger for a selfie, in footage captured at the Million Years Stone Park and Crocodile Farm in Thailand. It has caused worldwide outrage, and though the park says that the employee in question has since been removed, the helpless tiger is still there.

Tigers and other animals are often used for photo ops in Thailand. “Trainers” often poke, prod, or hit the animals in order to get the perfect picture, for which tourists—who either do not realize or do not care how the animals are being mistreated—pay large sums of money. No animal deserves to be exploited this way: prevented from living a full life for the sake of momentary gratification, narcissism, and profit. Sign below to demand that the Million Years Stone Park and Crocodile Farm stop using tigers for selfies and release them to sanctuaries.

Dear Mr. Phanomwattanakul,

The video depicting the use of a red-hot poker on a chained tiger at your park has rightfully sparked outrage, and something must be done. Tigers should not be kept in captivity so that humans can take selfies with them. Even aside from mistreatment at the hands of “trainers,” these animals need and deserve lives of freedom, not chains and photo ops.

While the release of the employee from the park is an important step, it is not enough. The tiger remains constrained to a life of captivity, being forced to pose for selfies with visitors. This is unacceptable. I urge you to ensure that this wild animal is allowed to live in freedom in a sanctuary as he is entitled to, and no longer chained for photo ops.

  1. F**k Asian countries, and f**k these mindless tourists!

  2. Nailed it.

Once again, not bad enough to have dogs and cats eaten, dolphins, whales, tigers, elephants, rhinos killed for money or stupid potions, we find even more egregious actions from the Asian cultures. WHY?

  3. Carol Brandt says:

I seriously doubt that this was an isolated case of one employee who needed to be fired. It had to be obvious that there was a poker that needed to be heated by some source, so I’m sure the management is lying. It is cruel, only punctuated by the natural majesty of these animals. And I have to wonder what the thing is with these Asian countries that makes them treat life so callously.

  4. Maureen Garney says:

This is sick and cruel. How would the handlers like to be poked in the face with a hot stick? I think that should be their punishment!

  5. Jaime Perez Jaime Perez says:

Asians are the cruelest bunch of monsters on the planet. They have such black hearts when it comes to animals. No compassion for the innocent animals.

  6. Shit people – brutal people – always these Thais
    Devilishly brutal
Always animals torment – WHY ????????

  7. As more and more people learn about the animal abuse and suffering that happens behind the scenes, the less people want to participate in it. Do the right thing.
