Applaud Companies for Saving Mutilated Toucan

Target: Elementos 3d, Ewa!corps, Publicidad Web, and Grupo Sommerus

Goal: Thank all the staff members who worked together to repair Grecia the Toucan’s broken bill.

A beautiful male toucan named Grecia had been viciously attacked by a group of teenage vandals, but he now has a new lease on life thanks to innovative technology that will repair his broken bill. Since the attack, Grecia was greatly struggling to eat on his own. Additionally, a toucan’s bill is vital for the bird’s thermoregulation system. Grecia’s story sparked outrage throughout Costa Rica and shocked citizens raised $5,000 to help the development of a prosthetic beak that would improve the toucan’s quality of life.

Four Costa Rican companies–Elementors 3d, Ewa!corps, Publicidad Web, and Grupo Sommerus–stepped up to save Grecia’s life by volunteering their resources to create a prosthesis for him. The 3-D printing to create this prosthesis will be the first of its kind in this region, but the process has already proven to be successful in the U.S., where prosthetic beaks were created for an eagle and penguin. Nelson Martinez, one of the designers on the team, tells BBC that they are working on a model that has “a fixed part and a movable part so it can be cleaned or replaced as the toucan is still growing.”

Please sign this petition to thank the four companies and their staff members for their efforts in repairing Grecia’s bill.

Dear Elementos 3d, Ewa!corps, Publicidad Web, and Grupo Sommerus staff members,

Grecia the toucan has been greatly suffering since a group of teenagers cruelly attacked him and destroyed more than half of his upper bill. This disgusting act of cruelty led outraged citizens across Costa Rica to donate thousands of dollars into the development of a 3-D printed prosthetic that you volunteered to create and design. I want to thank all the companies that banded together to help improve Grecia’s quality of life. The prosthetic will allow him to eat on his own and regain a bit of his old, normal life again.

Grecia’s horrendous attack proves that animal cruelty laws need to be stricter in Costa Rica, but it is fortunate that he was able to receive help from the community and companies that have the technological means to save his life. If the procedure is a success, this means that many more animals can be saved with the use of prosthetics, and this is at least one of the few positive outcomes of Grecia’s plight.
