After decades of suffering abuse and exploitation in captivity, Nosey the elephant’s freedom will finally be protected, and she will finally have a safe home. Animal advocates and compassionate individuals across the world have been fighting for her freedom for years. Thanks in part to petitions like this one at ForceChange, a judge has ruled in Nosey’s favor, granting custody to the sanctuary where she was being temporarily housed, allowing her to stay at her new home permanently. This will help ensure that Nosey is never again subjected to the pain and mistreatment of circus life that she suffered for many years.
When Nosey was rescued from life with Hugo Liebel and the Liebel Family Circus, she had a variety of sicknesses including skin, urinary tract, and roundworm infections. She had been left swaying in her own waste, in the chains the circus used to force her to give rides as an attraction. The animal cruelty charges against Liebel are still pending, and it is likely that Liebel will fight this ruling to turn custody of Nosey over to the sanctuary. However, the organization CompasssionWorks International said in a statement, “While we expect the Liebels will appeal this decision, they face numerous and ongoing legal actions and challenges, so we are confident that this ruling will result in Nosey’s forever freedom.” As PETA’s Rachel Mathews said, “Compassionate people the world over can breathe a sigh of relief with today’s ruling.”

Thank you for ruling on the side of compassion and humanity, and helping to ensure that Nosey the elephant finally has the long-awaited life of peace and sanctuary that she deserves. For years Nosey lived a life of suffering and exploitation in captivity, chained and forced to give rides in the circus. She deserves freedom and safety, and your ruling will give that to her.
Allowing Nosey to remain at the Elephant Sanctuary as her new home is the ideal outcome of a long and hard-fought battle for her freedom. OMG…….This wonderful news brings tears to my eyes and a extra beat to my heart. I know many many people have worked so hard to get Nosey into a sanctuary and far away from her tortures. She has lived a life of hell and now her remaining years will be what she should have lived all her life not just her last years but ….we will take that. It’s a shame but we can not reverse the horror she has lived so far but her days from now on will be wonderful.

Well, if they appeal, let’s hope the Liebels lose their shirts over it! Possessing no compassion or empathy towards their imprisoned animals FIRSTLY, should come with a steep and heavy earthly price to pay. Tons of animals, including elephants, need to be released to and cared for by real sanctuaries. These human losers should also be forced to PAY for the financial costs the sanctuaries then take on, on behalf of doing RIGHTLY by these animals.

I live in a small mid west town where Nosey was forced to give people rides. This was several years ago and one person who rode Nosey for ‘fun’ said Nosey had great trouble moving as she was so old and seemingly arthritic. And these greedy prior owners have the gall to want to continue this animal abuse for their personal profit! These people are soulless and heartless.
I am so happy that finally Nosey is safe..it took too long..we must make sure other elephants don’t suffer the same
There seems to be a change coming in the main when it comes to the publics perception of what is wrong and what is right concerning our treatment of animals. I have been somewhat shocked at the incredibly slow start to this change and how long it is taking, but it does seem to be coming. I really hope we see more of this sort of thing and all countries start to legislate for the respect of other living beings, besides humans.
Thank you for recognizing that Nosey was being abused/tortured and giving her a chance to just be an elephant. I hope this will be the start of a change in the US and the world, that this might stop for good.
