Target: Clark County Humane Society Executive Director James Straley,
Goal: Prosecute Springfield man for starving and freezing his pitbull to death
A man named Calvin Stewart from Springfield, Ohio is charged with two counts of animal cruelty for allowing his dog to starve and freeze to death outside his home. Stewart intentionally left his pit bull to suffer by not providing it with proper shelter or food.
The neighbors called the Humane Society after they spotted Stewart’s dog lying outside on the ground not moving and covered in snow. He did not have suitable protection for his dog and police reports show that the dog had been eating dirt and mud to survive before he ultimately starved and froze to death.
Animal abuse is a common problem and it happens when owners are unable to take proper care of their pets. The alarming number of animal cruelty cases reported every day in the media is only a small fragment of this epidemic. Most cases of animal abuse are never reported, and most animal abuse cases are hidden and/or unrecognized. According to the Humane Society of the United States, the most common victims are dogs, particularly the pit bull types. Over 65% of animal cruelty cases involve dogs and that number is continuously on the rise.
Please sign this petition to thank the Clark County Humane Society for charging Calvin Stewart with two counts of animal abuse and to make sure that Stewart is punished for his crimes.
Dear Director James Straley,
A man has been charged with animal abuse because he left his pet pit bull to starve and freeze to death outside of his home in Ohio. The Clark County Humane Society acted quickly to take this dog in to do the tests that needed to be done to prosecute him. With your help, the police were able to discover that his dog was surviving on dirt and mud before it was found deceased.
Thank you for your commitment to saving the lives of innocent and vulnerable animals. If it weren’t for the Humane Society, so many more pets would be suffering at the hands of neglectful owners. These pets are dependent on their caregivers. It is a sad fact to know that so many dogs fall victim to animal abuse and most of these cases go unrecorded and unrecognized. People who can’t kindly care for their pets should not have one.
