Recognize Animal Rights Worldwide

Target: Nikki Haley, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

Goal: Recognize the right of every living being to enjoy a life free from pain and cruelty.

For all their differences, every nation on earth shares a tragic commonality: animal suffering and cruelty. Each day, millions of living beings from every corner of the globe suffer untold injustices of every stripe. In the past, abuse and mistreatment of the innocent has led to global initiatives such as the Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. Through a similar proposal for the United Nations, we can be the voice of change for arguably the most disadvantaged and underprivileged members of our planet.

Since 2011, tireless advocates like World Animal Protection have fought to make the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare a reality. Reaffirming and strengthening a commitment made by previous measures like the Declaration of Animal Rights, the UDAW would recognize all animals as sentient beings capable of pain and feeling. As a formative step, the declaration also represents a call-to-action for governments worldwide to ensure the safety and well-being of animals. To date, over fifty government leaders have pledged their official or unofficial support to making animal cruelty and animal welfare urgent global issues. Without the official support of the United Nations, however, this critical cornerstone of animal rights will remain in endless limbo.

Sign the petition below and help the UDAW move from draft to proactive initiative by 2020. Demand UN ambassador for the United States Nikki Haley affirm the country’s role as a  leading advocate for equity and global welfare by pledging support for the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Ambassador Haley,

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are cherished American ideals. The thought of any living being enduring torture, malnutrition, depraved living conditions, and a lifetime of abuse makes most Americans shudder with anger and outrage. Yet for too many of America’s and the world’s living beings, this nightmare existence is an everyday, unrecognized reality.

The well-being of animals is not just a minor issue for local activists but a critical, pressing global crisis that affects every segment of society, from environmental health to public health to economic sustainability: key values in alignment with the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals.

We demand that you follow the example of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, fifty-plus nations, and millions of individuals around the world by supporting the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare. Let the U.S. lend another leading hand in making rights and wellness for all an integral global mission.

Sincerely,

Dear Nikki Haley: I LOVE your work as Ambassador to the United Nations! PLEASE recognize the right of every living being to enjoy a life free from pain and cruelty. I believe you’re a person who would care, because you show caring and compassion job!!!

  4. Giving all innocent animals their rights and protections is the right thing to do. They have been in need from the beginning of human/animal interaction. They have no voice and it is our responsibility to understand them and be their voice. It is our responsibility to rescue and protect them because we are in control of this world.

  5. Agree all above.
