Thank Rock Star for Speaking Out Against Animal Cruelty

Steven Tyler

Target: Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler

Goal: Thank Steven Tyler for encouraging legislators to ban cruel gestation crates

Aerosmith frontman and former-American Idol judge Steven Tyler is using his famous voice to call for a ban on gestation crates in Massachusetts. That state is currently considering passing a bill which would ban the locking of veal calves and breeding pigs into tiny crates. These gestation crates are typically so small that an animal cannot even turn around, let alone move in any healthy or natural way. Typically, veal calves and breeding pigs spend most of their lives confined in these tiny prisons.

In a letter to Massachusetts lawmakers, Tyler writes, “Massachusetts holds a very special place in my heart. Not only is it known for being ahead of the curve on important progressive issues, but it’s also the birthplace of my band Aerosmith. That’s why I was thrilled to learn from my friends at The Humane Society of the United States about S.2232, a critical bill that would ban the extreme confinement of animals used for food. Veal crates and gestation crates cause unspeakable suffering and with the success of crate-free environments, they are proven unnecessary. I hope to see the passage of S.2232 without delay.”

Tyler has been supporting a variety of causes throughout this year. In March, he teamed up with Elton John for the “Tiny Dancer” singer’s Academy Awards Viewing Party. During the event, Tyler auctioned off seven days at his home in Maui, and other items, to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Later in the year, he performed along with Natalie Cole and Cee Lo Green at the 21st Annual Race to Erase MS gala. The organization’s goal is to fund research to find new treatment methods and a cure for the MS.

As a Grammy winning performer, Tyler knows how to command an audience’s attention. Please take a moment to thank him for raising awareness to the suffering that animals endure because of gestation crates and for encouraging lawmakers to put a stop to the horrific practice of confining animals in crates.

Dear Steven Tyler,

I was pleased to learn that you were using your famous voice to encourage Massachusetts lawmakers to ban the extreme confinement of animals used for food. As you know, gestation crates are typically so small that an animal cannot even turn around.

Thank you for speaking out against animal cruelty, and for supporting other important organizations like the Elton John AIDS Foundation and the Race to Erase MS.
