Target: Dr. Aubrey Ross, Owner of Care Corporation

Goal: Commit to truly helping animals by utilizing volunteers and reporting the on-goings of the shelter.

Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe, Texas recently came under fire after volunteers found out that donations in the form of food, toys, beds and other care items had been tossed in the dumpster. The shelter recently transitioned from a non-profit run mostly by volunteers to a for-profit shelter run through a contract between the county and Care Corporation. Volunteers have been upset with the changes ever since.

Dr. Aubrey Ross, the owner of Care Corporation, could not provide any reasonable explanation as to why the donations had been thrown out rather than donated to another shelter. He simply claimed that they were cleaning out the shelter.

The shelter came under even more scrutiny when Dr. Ross recently fired the shelter’s director, who volunteers say has been a vital resource in ensuring the animals find good homes. Volunteers are extremely unhappy and even protesting the recent changes, claiming that the shelter is going against its purpose of helping animals by wasting resources. They say the new ownership is not being honest about the shelter operations, is not properly utilizing volunteers and is not listening to their concerns.

Shelters are often the last hope for abandoned or abused animals, and every resource given should be used to ensure these pets are taken care of and are able to find a new family. Demand the shelter provide transparency with the local community and listen to volunteers in order to provide the best service possible for the animals.

Dear Dr. Ross,

The Montgomery County Animal Shelter, now under your management, came under fire after volunteers found out that donations in the form of food, toys, beds and other care items had been tossed in the dumpster. Volunteers have been upset with the changes you’ve implemented ever since the shelter transitioned from non-profit to for-profit under your leadership.

There is no reason these donations should have been thrown out rather than kept for the shelter or donated to another shelter that could use them. It also doesn’t make sense that you recently fired the shelter’s director who has a proven reputation of helping animals in need at the shelter.

I urge you to improve communication and transparency at this shelter by listening to volunteers and operating in the best interest of the animals.

  1. Come on people. Animal Shelters are there to help vet, and get homes for animals. All of you must work together to do that and for you to fire someone who is doing their job (and there is no reason to be let go) must be investigated. If this is the case I hope she/he gets a top notch attorney and files suit. THE NUMBER ONE CONCERN OF SHELTERS IS THE CARE, VETTING AND FINDING NEW HOMES FOR THE ANIMALS. VOLUNTEERS KNOW A LOT ABOUT WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE BECAUSE THEY DO A LOT OF WORK AT THE SHELTERS SO LISTEN TO THEM AND WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
