Goal: Help Charlie, a sweet English Mastiff - Bernese Mountain Dog mix, win his battle against Lymphoma.

Charlie is a 5 year old big, sweet, tender and beautiful boy who hasn’t even gotten to celebrate his 6th birthday yet. He was recently diagnosed with Lymphoma and is being treated by Dr. Fulton, a veterinary oncologist, at MedVets in Columbus, Ohio and Dr. Maynard of Mad River Veterinary Hospital.

In order to save his life, Charlie will need some intensive chemotherapy. Charlie’s family has chosen the most aggressive and responsive chemotherapy commonly referred to as the C.H.OP protocol. He is a great candidate for this combination therapy. Charlie needs all the love, support, prayers and funding that he can get to get through this arduous journey.

Charlie’s owner has indicated that he “started this charity fund because I want him to get the best treatment possible. I know in my heart and soul that with this treatment, he will get through this fight for his to life for a see many more happy years. Please PLEASE consider being one of Charlie’s saving grace’s and helping to keep that big tail wagging and that saggy face smiling.”

Good luck, sweet Charlie. I have a cat with lymphoma who is not a good candidate for chemo. My vet said he would not live any longer if he had chemo therapy which he told me was extremely expensive (at least $4,000) as he would live taking prescription medicines. My 10 year old kitty is taking 2 to 3, 5mg Predisone pills (it’s a type of steroid) per day plus a 2mg Leukeran (a.k.a. Chlorambucil) pill 3x a week for 4-6 weeks, then takes it 3x a week every other week for 4 weeks, then reducing to 3x a week every two weeks, finally on 3x a week once a month forever. The predisone pills will be reduced to 1-2 per day. He is responding well, is active, eats and drinks well, and I was told he could live at leave 14 months to 2 more years, maybe even longer if he continues responding well. Maybe this treatment could work for Charlie, too? Even so, the Chlorambucil pills are expensive ($10-16 per pill depending on where you get it) but can be purchased at discount with a prescription from Walgreens which has a discount pet plan. Certainly cheaper than chemo. (note: cats usually don’t suffer from any side effects of taking chemo and it is successful first time, however the cancer tends to return within a year to 18 months after treatment and chemo is not an option the second time). Hope Charlie gets a second chance.
