Praise Nepal for Rescue of Dancing Bears

Target: Prakash Aryal, Chief of Nepal Police

Goal: Praise rescue of dancing bears in Nepal.

Two sloth bears in Nepal have been rescued from years of being forced to dance for spectators. Additionally, the practice of making bears dance has been officially declared illegal in Nepal, following the lead of countries such as Turkey and Greece.

The practice of forcing bears to dance is inhumane. Bears are taken from their mothers as cubs, with the mothers being subsequently killed and the cubs forced to undergo cruel training methods. Bear dancing has been in practice for centuries to entertain humans, with no thought as to how it impacts the animals forced to perform under such conditions.

Rangila and Sridevi, the two rescued bears, are currently traumatized and will need long-term special care to recover from their horrific lifestyle, but it is said that many bears rescued from dancing have recovered well and lived long and healthy lives. The pair will live out the rest of their days in a wildlife sanctuary.

The end of a cruel and inhumane practice is cause for celebration. Sign this petition to thank the local police for aiding in the rescue of Rangila and Sridevi.

Dear Chief Aryal,

Your aid in the rescue of the last two dancing bears in Nepal is deeply appreciated. The tradition of forcing bears to dance for human entertainment is cruel and unnecessary; it forces cubs away from their mothers to undergo harsh training, and the rescued bears are heavily traumatized by the lifestyle. The fact that the practice is now illegal adds to the joy of this rescue, as no more bears will be ripped from their natural habitat and cruelly exploited.

Thank you for aiding the Jane Goodall Institute and World Animal Protection in saving these innocent animals from a lifetime of being exploited for human entertainment. These two bears will need lots of time to recover, but they are free thanks to your efforts and assistance.

  1. What kind of demented people would watch a bear be tortured to dance for them?? Just as demented and twisted as the torturers. Thank goodness sanity has finally prevailed, that kindness common sense and compassion have won out over depravity!

  2. Indians are worse.

  3. now go after China for the cruelty they do to bears and all animals China is one horrible country and anyone who buys goods or food from there is just as sick

I can’t imagine anyone thinking this is entertaining.
A long and happy rest of your lives, Rangila and Sridevi.

From the age of three, I chose to go to a zoo, circus, or pet store. I couldn’t stand to see animals treated like that. How can anyone – present company excluded – like this sort of thing?

    • KatWrangler WELCH says:

Crap! BAD cutting and pasting … it should be “chose NOT to go to zoos, circuses, or pet stores”.

Wish there was an EDIT feature 🙂

  6. Nepal must be a beautiful place, not only did these wonderful bears get rescued but Nepal celebrates their dogs with a fabulously colorful holiday too!! Countries that honor animals are FANTASTIC! In my book, anyways!

  7. David Lavery says:

Many thanks Prakash, anyone who helps animals is a hero, people who save bears from suffering are among the best.Well done Nepal.

  8. Lesley Llewellyn says:

Thank you Nepal!! Please extent you knowledge and common descentency to other countries! There maybe some hope left in this world!
See if The Wild Life Rescue in Denver, CO can add you with the bears recovery.
Again thank you and God Bless you Chief Aryal for being one of the “good guys”.
