Praise Efforts to Protect Animals Abandoned in Foreclosures

abandoned dog

Target: Senator Jamie Eldridge of Massachusetts

Goal: Condone efforts to save abandoned animals in foreclosures from illness and death

Massachusetts Senator Jamie Eldridge recently proposed a bill that will ensure animals abandoned in foreclosed homes are discovered and saved from a tragic death. Prior to this bill’s introduction, animals abandoned in foreclosed homes would potentially die because no one was obligated to investigate the property in a timely manner after vacancy. The bill has yet to come into law, though has great potential. If passed, the bill will save countless animals from prolonged suffering.

The bill was introduced after a dog was found dead in an abandoned building. Having passed the Senate with no contest, the bill is now scheduled for a vote in the House. If passed, landlords will be required to inspect their buildings within five days of vacancy in order to discover any abandoned pets or animals. If any animals are found during inspection, animal control authorities will be notified and the animal will be given a chance at a happy life.

Ensuring that abandoned animals are discovered and properly cared for is very important. By signing this petition, you will lend your support to this crucial bill and help persuade the House of Representatives to protect the lives of abandoned pets by signing this bill into law.

Dear Senator Eldridge,

I am writing to express my support of the recent Senate bill that, if passed, will require landlords to inspect their vacated property within five days. I believe this is an extremely important piece of legislation, which will ensure that abandoned pets and animals are properly cared for in a timely manner. As you know, there are too many incidents where animals are abandoned along with a foreclosed building. As was the case with a recently deceased dog, too often animals are locked inside the abandoned property and left to starve to death. This is a heartbreaking, yet easily preventable, outcome.

Please use the signatures generated by this petition to inform members of the House of Representatives that this bill has great support. Thank you for standing up for abandoned animals and working to ensure that they have the opportunity to find a happy home.

Of course our national obsession by banks for foreclosure, on mortgages which have often been changed by sale to other financial institutions against the will of the mortgagee is sick. We should be working to end this, at least forcing the banks to work out deals, maybe not even reducing principal, but reducing interest rates and extending loan payoff periods. Actually they often sell the foreclosed properties for much less than the amount owed by the original mortgagee. Why not work with the mortgagee and lose less?

    Thank you!!! 😉

This is great news!!! Also I believe that whoever just abandoned the animal gets a 10 year prison sentence or…..10 months hard labor. Now that is more like it.

  4. Sydney M says:

Animals should never have to suffer because of the irresponsibility of their human owners. If you can’t afford a pet, then DON’T adopt one. If you aren’t willing to make that pet a permanent member of your family (regardless of whatever financial problems you are facing)then you have no business having that pet in the first place. These animals are our friend, our companions and our family members. They are not objects, to be discarded when it’s no longer ‘convenient’ to have them. SHAME on every individual who has ever abandoned a helpless animal !!!!!

  5. Margareth Bahia says:

A punição dever ser exemplar para que não se repita. Os animais precisam de nós. Juntos Somos Fortes!
