Save Spotted Turtle from Extinction

Target: Greg Sheehan, Acting Director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

Goal: Add the rare spotted turtle to the endangered species list.

The population of spotted turtles is rapidly shrinking. Researchers have only found about 50 left in their natural habitat. This is a startling number, considering spotted turtles were once a common staple of Rhode Island wetlands.

The swift decline in the spotted turtle population is due to rampant development of their wetlands. Other areas, like Canada, have thus classified the species as endangered. It’s time for the United States to do the same.

Sign the petition and demand that the spotted turtle be added to the endangered species list. It must be protected, and its habitat must be preserved.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Sheehan,

Once a common site in Rhode Island’s wetlands, the spotted turtle population has now shrunk to double digits. Only about 50 are left in its natural habitat. Its population is rapidly declining as development robs it of its wetlands.

The spotted turtle must be added to the endangered species list. Doing so will ensure its habitat is protected and the species is given a renewed chance at life. I ask that you add the spotted turtle to the endangered species list.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
