Save Elderly Lion From Slowly Starving to Death

Target: Abdul Hamid, President of Bangladesh

Goal: Save an aging lion from starving to death at a zoo.

A 17-year-old lion named Juboraj has spent much of his life isolated in a cage with no companions as the Comilla Zoo’s star attraction. However, now that his health is in decline due to his advancing age, zoo officials have decided to move the lion out of public view and appear to be allowing him to languish and starve to death. This poor animal deserves far better treatment and we must demand that he be relocated at once.

Concerned zoo goers first noticed the lion’s deteriorating condition in recent weeks, with photographs emerging showing his protruding spine and hip bones. He is allegedly so weak that he can barely walk, and his caretakers say that he rarely eats. The zoo responded to the public outcry surrounding Juboraj by hiding him from public view. He now appears to be residing in a barren, muddy cell, where he continues to waste away.

This is no way to treat a sick and dying animal. Juboraj must be taken to an accredited sanctuary where he can live out the rest of his days comfortably, or if absolutely necessary he must be euthanized in a humane manner. Sign this petition to urge the President of Bangladesh to intervene on this magnificent creature’s behalf.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Hamid,

The Comilla Zoo is currently housing an elderly lion named Juboraj who appears to be suffering and wasting away in his advancing age. To make matters worse, he has been forced to live in a muddy pit outside of the public eye, apparently to prevent further outcry from concerned guests. This lion deserves far better, and cannot be allowed to starve from neglect simply because he is old.

Juboraj has suffered for years in isolation away from other lions. In the wild, lions are social creatures that thrive on interaction with their own kind. We, the undersigned, ask that you speak out on behalf of Juboraj and demand that he be moved to an accredited sanctuary where he can reside with other lions for his remaining days. If this cannot be done, the zoo must do the right thing and humanely euthanize him rather than allow him to die alone in agony.

Sincerely,

  1. This poor old fella should be allowed to live the rest of his life in peace and comfort. The solution is not to hide him away from the public’s eyes.
Do the right thing by him and move him to a sanctuary.

  2. What is this world coming to? If you cannot afford the animal – then let people who want to help, help. This poor soul should not be allowed to languish and starve – have some compassion!

  3. Susy Westfield says:

Bad enough to be alone as lions are social cats, but to be treated like this is absolutely disgusting. Are there no rescue organisations that could help?

  4. Ruth Leibowtiz says:

Please save this beautiful helpless creature from this heartbreaking life, & away from such cruel, & heartless individuals that mistreat him. These despicable individuals have no heart, no feelings, & no regard for precious life. This is pure evil. Please save him & place him in a sanctuary where he can be well fed, be happy, be free, & happy to face each day knowing he is he safe, with caring people. God’s creatures are precious true gifts, & this is a total act of disrespect towards God’s creatures. Anyone who does harm to his magnificent creatures will be punishes severely by the Lord, for their evil acts.

  5. How cruel can these people be to let this poor animals go through this have a heart and put him to sleep humanely. What’s wrong with these cruel countries they need to be shot.

  6. IT IS IRRATIONAL, MERCILESS & WRONG TO KILL HEALTHY & TREATABLE ANIMALS — PLEASE transfer this magnificent animal Juboraj to a Sanctuary where he can be under the care of knowledgeable staff — does this beautiful lion have a treatable condition? — Again, TRANSFER Juboraj to a Sanctuary for proper care!

  7. WHERE IS THE SOUL AND MENTALITY OF THESE FREAKING PEOPLE—IS THIS THE WAY TO TREAT AN AGED LION WHO BROUGHT MUCH INCOME FROM THE PUBLIC VIEWS??–PUT THIS LION IN SANCTUARY SURROUNDED BY NATURE/GRASS AND NOT MUD/CONCRETE.—WHAT A SHAME BANGLADESH!!

  8. This story should be on the national news – shame on Bangladesh. What the hell are these people thinking about?

When are zoos going to be banned – the only way to stop this cruelty is for people to boycott zoos, animals should be in their natural environment, as humans we have absolutely no right whatsoever to demand to be close up to wild animals, once again total selfishness on the part of humans. Sickens me totally.

  9. Wade Holdsworth says:

Does anybody know the status of this Lion? If he was moved or treated.

  10. Lions belong in Africa and should NEVER have been brought out of there into captivity in the first place. Let this lion get the love and attention he needs and release him into first rehab and then into an African sanctuary.
