Stop Tearing Baby Apes Away From Their Parents to Sell Online

Target: Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook

Goal: Demand Facebook stop the trade in illegally-smuggled apes who are taken from the wild and forced to endure horrific cruelty.

Ape smugglers are using social media to advertise their ill-gotten “goods,” most notably Facebook. Tens of thousands of these poor animals have been victimized by the trade; forcibly removed from their homes, threatened or attacked with weapons, treated as chattel, even killed. The existence of the trade itself is horrific enough, but these people take it a step further by publicizing their dirty deeds.

We cannot allow this to continue. Apes are vulnerable species, and Facebook is one of the most powerful social media companies in existence. But instead of using their power and wealth to help stop this illegal operation, they are complicit in allowing it to continue by letting smugglers and poachers advertise apes as they would furniture or jewelry for sale.

Apes deserve so much better than this, and we need Facebook to help us shut down the trade. Sign this petition to demand Facebook ban the posting of illegally smuggled wildlife.

Dear Mr. Zuckerberg,

Your platform is being used by illegal ape smugglers to advertise their ill-gotten “goods.” The ape trade itself is a horrific operation in which apes are hunted, captured, even tortured and killed for the sake of monetary gain, and your company has been complicit in the trade by allowing photos of these poor creatures to be posted.

You must ban this practice immediately. The ape trade needs to be shut down once and for all, and you have the power to aid us in this endeavor. Your Terms Of Service need to be updated to prohibit smugglers and poachers from showing off their prey and trying to further their dirty business. Apes deserve better than to be treated like this.

  1. absolutely disgusting. What goes around comes around. cant wait til all you unfeeling uncaring money grabbing get a taste of your own medicine. Wonder how you would feel if your kids were grabbed off of you for morons to gawp at??

  2. Mark Zuckerberg’s first priority should be to ensure that Facebook, is safe to use and doesn’t promote cruelty. It shouldn’t just be the profit margins, that are the main concern. That’s how corruption develops. Basically Facebook shouldn’t have been allowed to grow so quickly and so much, if it meant that some of the content went so much out of control. If animals are being sold on Facebook, then it should be stopped, as this type of profiting from cruelty, is not only illegal, it is immoral as well.

  4. FB seems to be already in the evil/ugly SYSTEM, but maybe just maybe worth a try. So, let’s sign the petition!

  5. Rosslyn Osborne says:

Please stop allowing these animals to be advertised and sold on-line. Face Book is better than that!
These animals by the age of 2 and 3 are young teens and their hormones kick in and they instinctively want to be free to do their ‘thing’.
Then they are no longer the cute cuddly animals that wants to be dressed up or cuddled, and become dangerous.
So the next step is to get rid of them…. Where?
These poor animals normally can’t go back to the wild, so they end up as research material in labs or caged at roadside zoos, or killed in some other heinous manner.
STOP buying exotic/wild animals…they belong in the wild with their family.
