Stop Cruel Turkey-Throwing Event

Target: Asa Hutchinson, Governor of Arkansas

Goal: Cancel Arkansas’ annual “Turkey Drop” once and for all.

Dozens of turkeys are tortured each year at the annual “Turkey Drop” event in Yellville, Arkansas. A “phantom pilot” flies over town dropping the helpless birds from 500 feet in the air, and the birds who survive are chased down and captured by the population. Many of the birds crash into buildings, cars, or the pavement, and some of them die from the sheer trauma of being thrown through the air.

This barbaric event needs to be stopped once and for all. Protests and petitions have been circulating for years, but the tradition continues at the expense of these helpless animals. The Federal Aviation Administration unfortunately ‘cannot’ shut this event down as it ‘technically’ does not violate any laws; this assessment could not be more wrong. Even if the turkeys survive, they are being cruelly tortured, and that alone should qualify for law-violating animal abuse.

We must fight to ensure this cruel, twisted event is shut down for good. Sign this petition to help save the lives and protect the well-being of these defenseless turkeys.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Hutchinson,

Yellville’s annual “Turkey Drop” festival event is cruel and inhumane. Helpless turkeys are taken 500 feet up into the air and dropped from a plane only to be chased and captured once they hit the ground. Some of these birds have died from the trauma of either being thrown or from hitting hard, solid objects upon falling.

In the past several years, there have been far too many events focused on torturing animals for the sake of human entertainment. This festival is just another that should not be allowed to continue, and should be considered illegal despite the Federal Aviation Administration claiming it is not. You must shut down this twisted event for good, to protect the lives and well-being of any turkeys who might fall victim to this horrible tradition in the future.

Sincerely,

  4. Rosslyn Osborne says:

“Ye must not only have kind and merciful feelings for mankind, but ye should also exercise the utmost kindness towards every living creature.
The physical sensibilities and instincts are common to animal and man.
Man is, however, negligent of this reality and imagines that sensibility is peculiar to mankind, therefore he practices cruelty to the animal…..
In reality what difference is there in physical sensations! Sensibility is the same whether you harm man or animal: there is no difference. Nay, rather, cruelty to the animal is more painful because man has a tongue and he sighs, complains and groans when he receives an injury and complains to the government and the government protects him from cruelty; but the poor animal cannot speak, it can neither show its suffering nor is it able to appeal to the government.
If it is harmed a thousand times by man it is not able to defend itself in words nor can it seek justice or retaliate…..
Therefore one must be very considerate towards animals and show greater kindness to them than to man…. Man is generally sinful and the animal is innocent; unquestionably one must be more kind and merciful to the innocent”. Baha’i Faith Writings
    PLEASE STOP THIS.
