Target: Ellen DeGeneres
Goal: Thank Ellen DeGeneres for advocating to end rabies testing in Taiwan
Talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres has joined forces with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine to ask the Taiwanese government to stop using beagle puppies in deadly rabies experiments. DeGeneres, a vegan and dedicated animal activist, regularly uses her celebrity status to speak up for voiceless animals around the world.
“As a long-time advocate for the welfare of animals, I would like to join the many physicians, scientists, and veterinarians who have encouraged the Taiwanese government to avoid experimenting on live animals in its efforts to combat the rabies virus in Taiwan,” DeGeneres wrote in a letter to Taiwanese government officials. “No one would want to think of forcing live animals to go through experiments in which they develop rabies and ultimately die from it. Experts from the international scientific and veterinary communities agree that the infectivity of rabies viruses and the resulting course of infection in animals have been well established.”
DeGeneres is a true champion for animals. Besides advocating for the well-being of animals in her free time, she frequently features leading animal activists on her popular daytime talk show “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” She also dedicates a section on her website to helping shelter pets find loving forever homes. Some of DeGeneres’ favorite animal welfare organizations include the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), The Gentle Barn, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Best Friends Animal Society.
DeGeneres uses her wry humor to draw attention to the insanity of hunting by saying, “I ask people why they have deer heads on their walls. They always say because it’s such a beautiful animal. There you go. I think my mother is attractive, but I have photographs of her.” Please take a moment to thank Ellen DeGeneres for being a fearless animal advocate.
Dear Ms. DeGeneres,
I was so pleased to learn that you had written a letter requesting the Taiwanese government to stop using beagle puppies for cruel rabies tests. You consistently use your famous voice to speak up for voiceless animals who are subjected to unnecessary cruelties all over the world.
I am also impressed with your willingness to feature leading animal rights advocates on your popular daytime talk show, help shelter pets find a loving forever home and live a vegan lifestyle. Thank you so much for truly being a champion for animals.
