Justice for Lillith the Lynx

Target: Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales

Goal: Prevent Ceredigion County Council from putting zoo animals to death.

An escaped lynx from a Wales zoo was unfairly put to death due to “concerns about its likely behavioural response if it was startled or inadvertently confronted by a member of the public, especially by a young child.” Lillith, as the animal was called, was accused of not only being a danger to humans, but of killing a farmer’s sheep. The zoo itself is currently under investigation for having allowed Lillith to escape in the first place; the owners have admitted that the facilities were in poor condition when they took over the business.

This is a tragedy that could have easily been avoided. While it is only natural to feel concern over a wildcat on the loose, Lillith did not attempt to harm any human beings, nor is there official proof that she killed those sheep. The council acted rashly; they did not give the zoo ample chance to recapture her, and their actions put the other animals at risk should they escape.

The zoo itself is currently attempting to fix their problems, but until then, we must ensure that the county council does not put any more innocent animals to death simply for being “on the loose.” Sign this petition to demand justice for Lillith and to protect the zoo’s other animals from such a fate.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear First Minister Jones,

Ceredigion County Council’s decision to put down Lillith the lynx was unjust and unfair. Their actions were inspired by one farmer’s accusation and pre-emptive concerns regarding her actions towards human beings, when in reality there is no proof that she killed that farmer’s sheep or that she came anywhere near human beings, specifically small children. The Borth zoo was prepared to capture her before they had her put to death.

The zoo is well aware that any animal could have escaped and created alarm, but that does not mean those animals deserve to die. The owners have closed down the zoo and will be working to fix the problems they inherited, but until then, it is possible other animals may accidentally escape, in danger of facing the same grim fate as Lillith. Please ensure that the council does not have any other animals put to death in the future.

Sincerely,

  1. EL PROBLEMA DE ATAQUES DE ANIMALES SALVAJES; NO, NO, NO ES DE LOS ANIMALES; ES DE LOS SERES HUMANOS. DETENGAN ESTOS ASESINATOS Y JUZGUEN CON PENA DE MUERTE A LOS SERES HUMANOS, QUIENES SON LOS RESPONSABLES!!!!!!!!

  2. At least the poor thing had a little taste of freedom from her prison. I know it is risky but she could have been tranquilized by someone who knows what he’s doing. Zoo is just a nice sounding name for imprisonment.

  3. JUSTICE FOR LILITH THE LYNX NOW. KILLING THIS GREAT ANIMAL IS WRONG NOW.

  4. Linda Cummings says:

Why is this wild animal even in your cruel animal prison you call a zoo?! She was only doing what is natural to her – trying to be free and wild, if you cannot get that you need to have nothing to do with any animal!!!!!

  5. This is why animals DO NOT belong in zoos! Justice for Lillith the Lynx!

  6. this disgusting stop killing animals

  7. SHAMEFUL, BARBARIC, DISGUSTING!!! Sounds like another Zoo that should be shut down and the animals go to sanctuaries!!!!!
