Target: Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak
Goal: Ensure the man who shot a Malaysian dog with arrows faces punishment for his actions
Animal cruelty is tolerated in some societies because of the way the people perceive other species. Some Malaysians view animals as dirty and unclean which, unfortunately, can lead to a lack of appreciation for animal rights. Although there are laws to protect these animals too often acts of cruel abuse committed against them go unpunished.
Recently a dog was shot with arrows by a man who claims the dog wouldn’t back away from his house gate. A neighbor who witnessed the situation says the dog was wearing a collar and already had two arrows in its body. The neighbor stepped in and attempted to save the dog as the man was approaching to shoot it a third time. The dog was likely lost and looking for a way home. Using a bow and arrow was a completely unnecessary means to remove the animal from the man’s property. A simple spray of water from a hose would have scared the dog away as opposed to causing it serious physical harm.
The man who shot the dog with arrows is unlikely to face charges. Malaysian authorities say they doubt charges would be brought against the man since he claims he shot the dog in self-defense. The dog, affectionately named Brianna by a Malaysian animal welfare group, has since succumbed to tick fever. Demand prosecution of the man who shot this defenseless dog with arrows.
Dear Prime Minister Razak,
It has come to my attention that yet another recent case of animal cruelty in Malaysia may go unpunished. A man shot a collared dog with arrows because it would not back away from the gate of his house. The dog was already shot with two arrows when a neighbor decided to step in and rescue the poor creature even as its attacker was approaching to shoot it a third time.
I believe that his choice to use a bow and arrow against the dog was completely unnecessary and intentionally cruel. This poor animal was most likely lost and trying to find its way home. A simple spray of water from a hose would have been enough to motivate the dog to leave.
I urge you to see to it that animal cruelty cases such as this will not go on unpunished in your great country.
